Art Garage Sale

Plans are in the making for the LAG Art Garage Sale to benefit the Lincoln Artists’ Guild in their endeavors with promoting art within the community and encouraging beginning artists by bringing in presenters to do meetings and programs geared to art.

The date set aside is Saturday April 9th from 8 – 2.  Members are encouraged to go through their studios, garages, etc. and donate new or gently used artistic items (art books, markers, paints, brushes, art tools, etc.) that they no longer need or want and bring to the gallery during gallery hours the entire week April 6-7 and 8.  You do not need to price anything, as the Guild volunteers will do that so there is consistency with prices from item to item.  We will also be looking for volunteers for Friday night and Saturday.  Any items not selling at the sale will be donated to various children’s groups for their after-school clubs or activities.

Hope everyone can get out a box or two, start filling them up and bring to the gallery.  Questions can be referred to Jan Garvin at 402 318 9757

Books

These are the two books that Keri Kriston recommended during her capturing the colors of the eye.

Kirk Kuenzi also recommended several books that he enjoyed.

Lastly, our previous judge and critique guest; Ted Pardy let me know of a just released book that he thought might help out the landscape painters.

Lost and Found

Gretchen Olberding did an evening program for the Guild on pastel painting, and during her demonstration she introduced us to various tools she used.  She has since misplaced the sharpener that she showed us and wondered if anyone at the meeting may have picked it up by mistake.  If you find it, please let her know.

Frozen Free February

Gallery attendance is slow in these “freezing” temps, so the month of February the gallery will be hosting Free February. All Lag members may show in the gallery for no charge.  Bring in several pieces for sale for no fee and no commission.  Only requirement is to work the gallery one or two times.  (times are blocked into three hour shifts – 12 – 3 or 3 – 6 / Sat. 10 – 1:30 or 1:30 – 5)

Change day is Saturday January 29 – all day, or Wednesday February 2nd, 12 – 1

February Monthly Program

Tuesday February 8th is our monthly program.  Keri Kriston is presenting a program on Painting Eyes: Color in the planes of the eye.  She is a portrait artist and a member of our Guild.  She uses high contrast color, and she will share her knowledge of color and explain how she thinks about color in her paintings.  There is a $5 fee for the materials that she will be providing, and request you bring small brushes for acrylic paint.  If you don’t have brushes, don’t worry, we cab share.  If you have a fear of drawing eyes, guess what, she has already done that for you.  Yeah!

We will be accepting membership renewals this night, don’t forget your checkbook.  Must have money in by the end of February to be considered a member of ANAC.

Newly implemented for this year, at every meeting you may put your name in a drawing for a “freebie”.  It may be silly, it might be serious, but all in fun.

Meeting is held at 2634 North 48th St, Lincoln Nebraska.  The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. and free parking is located behind the gallery, and also west of the Mo Java coffee shop.  If you know someone who is interested in joining, please pass this newsletter along and invite them to visit our February meeting, or any one of our monthly meetings.
