August 28 Featured Art and Music

August 4th Friday Featured Artist is Joy Frame! Joy Frame is our Featured Artist for August 28. The art reception will be at Out of the Box, 48th and R Street between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. Joy has this to say about her art.

I have lived most of my life in Iowa and Nebraska.  I love our ever changing seasons.  We are blessed to have a variety of trees which change with the seasons.  I enjoy driving around to capture the fields, trees and flowers. I see painting opportunities all around me. My original work was in oils but after trying watercolor I was hooked!  I enjoy the rich and somewhat unpredictable color blending (happy accidents) in the wet-in-wet technique.  I am mostly self taught beginning when I retired from Methodist College.  I have been able to study with Rose Edin, Zoltan Szabo, Sheila Parsons, Karlyn Holman along with Ken Hosmer and Jim McClellan.  Each has contributed to my evolving style. I am an associate artist at Against the Wall and the Wildwood Gallery in Nebraska City. I have illustrated three Children’s books which were written by my grade school friend. I am a member of the Lincoln Artist guild and the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs .I currently live in Lincoln with my puppy Lily.  My studio is in my home.  I can be reached at 402.489.7543.

Featured Music, LUAU. LUAU (Lancaster Ukulele Aficionados United) will be the Featured Live Music on the 4th Friday on August 28th between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.  They are a collective who share the joy of the ukulele. They offer a cornucopia of island music seasoned with pop, ragtime, and even classical music played on all sizes and shapes of the small but mighty ukulele.

JUNE 26th FOURTH FRIDAY

We had a great crowd for the JUNE 26th 4th Friday. DONNA POZEHL was the featured artist. She had a wonderful exhibit showing many different styles of painting. Some new pieces of artwork had a sense of fun with textures. Donna also had smaller unframed pieces of art (bin art) available. Many guests really enjoyed browsing through the bin.

The music was provided by THE SHOESTRING BAND. We are delighted to say one of our Artist Guild members, Evert Claesson is part of the string band. The band played a great variety of old time and folk music. The trio’s (giant banjo, fiddle, and guitar) talents were instrumental to lots of toe tapping. Many guests seemed to have a little extra bounce to their walk as they strolled through the gallery.

The evening was another success; the gallery had a nice turn out of guests and members. It’s so much fun to see people having a good time at the Fourth Fridays. We get many compliments and interest on the artwork, refreshments and live music. Everyone just loves the gallery and all the interesting items Out of the Box offers. Can’t wait for next month.
