Out of the Box

Each Friday reception is getting better & better.  The music has really added to the evenings.  Word is getting out about our art.

Kudos to the loyal volunteers who have been filling in on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays at Out Of The Box.  Please continue to sign up at the meetings on the first Tuesdays or call to schedule a day on your own. We are continuing to find alternative volunteer opportunities for those who are absolutely unable to work their assigned hours

We still need several members to help with receptions for the last part of this year.  There will not be a reception in July and August.  The September & October reception still needs three more people.   October will be our one year anniversary at Out of the Box.  November still needs four more members and no one has signed up for December.  Let’s try to fill these opening.

Visit with some of the members who have helped with past receptions.  It is fun to do, and is a good way to get to know other members of the club!  If you have someone that is willing to help you, please let Judy know so she can add you to the chart. You get to decide what will be happening; Sue Thelen has names of people that can provide music.

For those of you who have not heard, Judy Martindale has taken over the scheduling duties for LAG at Out Of The Box.  Remember to find another member yourself to trade with if you cannot fulfill your agreed upon hours. To schedule volunteer time, call Judy at 402-202-1167.

Thanks again!

Jan Blank, OOTB committee member

June Program

Holmes Park at 70th Normal Blvd. is where the LAG picnic is planned for all members and their spouses on June 3. Hot dogs and buns will be furnished for the pot luck meal so RSVP to Joyce Jacobs @401-488-7187 so she will have enough hot dogs for everyone. The rest of the meal will be pot luck so bring whatever you’d like to share with others and bring your own utensils and drink. Look for the lady with a big red hat and that will be our group. Come eat, visit and bring your cameras and sketch pads if you’d like to do some sketching. We will plan to eat at 7:00 p.m. and hopefully by then summer weather will finally arrive.

May Meeting

The May meeting was opened with a fine showing of some of Marion Rumbolz paintings that will be shown at the Rogers House on May 22, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. This will be sponsored by the Preservation Assoc. of Lincoln. Tickets are $20.00 and includes a chance to own one of her original works. Marion had been a long time member before she passed away. Her enthusiasm for LAG and art influenced many of our members.

Keith Larsen encouraged everyone to participate in the 55 + Front Page Art Contest July 1st at Bennett Martin Library. He will show more information on this again at the June picnic.

A DVD of “A Touch Of Color” was shown by the artist Yarnell. He showed step by step how to make skies by using undertones, how to give mountains that real look, how the placements of buildings, fences, and trees enhances a picture, and how to give snow a winter look. Artists of most mediums benefited from his instructions except watercolorists, and we’ll do a program just for them another time.

“Season’s Unfolding” at County/City Exhibition Gallery June-August

Join fellow LAG artist Linda Stephen and city dignitaries at the opening of her solo show “Season’s Unfolding – Linda Stephen Origami Landscapes” at the County-City Building at 555 S. 10th Street, Lincoln. The opening reception is Friday June 6 from 4:30-6 p.m. with artist talk at 5:15 p.m. The exhibit is open weekdays June 4-August 31. Free parking is available in the lot just north of the building across “K” Street. The exhibit is curated by Liz Shea-McCoy. Other artists in the 2013-2014 County-City exhibition schedule were Dale Gibbs, FAIA, James McClelland, and Deon Bahr, FAIA. Hundreds of people come through the center each month! They offer a trophy for the Peoples’ Choice Award.  Julie Lemons will be demonstrating pastel art on the Fourth of July and will be promoting LAG.
