The October meeting is our Critique month

The judge artist should be able to help you with any tips that may improve your picture before you enter it in a juried show.   However, do bring any pictures that you would like to have critiqued as it is a good learning experience so that you can become even better at what you paint.  Your pictures can be done, framed or not framed, completed or still being worked on.  Or just come and observe and listen to the critique.  This will be for two paintings per member.   We have to be out of the church by 9:00 pm.

October Change Date

October Change date (to put new paintings in the Gallery) is set for Wed. the 21st only. Members that work and/ or need to bring theirs work in earlier can bring them in on the weekend of October 17 & 18th. We are again asking for 5 paintings from all members. If you have five there now you can leave them or you can exchange them with new paintings. If you don’t have five just bring what you can. Do not bring your paintings in after the change date. If you sell a painting it can be replaced. Keep checking at the Gallery to see if you sold something. Good Luck. If you have any questions, please call Donna at 402435-0172

Small Items Sale

The Jewelry sale went so well that we wanted to try having something similar (specialty table) each 4thFriday This will only be small items that you make.  No small paintings at this time.  Everything has to look very Professional and be approved by Jody or Myra. If they accept your work we can then schedule a month that is open and not already scheduled.   Do not expect to be able to bring it in the month you have it approved.  Every time you bring your small item work to the gallery, they must be listed on an inventory sheet.  If several members have the same type of work, they may show together.  We had three jewelry people showing last Friday.

Just to be clear for right now, OUT OF THE BOX does not want small items in the store except for on the Forth Friday reception night, (specialty table).  The items are there for only that night unless told otherwise by Jody and Myra.

The month that you are scheduled to sell your items need to be brought in that night at 4:30 or earlier to set up your display and help set up for the evening.  All items must be then taken home that night at 9:00 pm.   If you cannot stay for the whole reception, please do not bring anything.

It was decided that the Oct. 23rd we will have Christmas cards and note cards.  Start making your cards. They will have to be in single card bags or tied with a ribbon. They can be displayed by laying on the table or in a professional box to hold them. The professional bags can be purchased at Hobby Lobby. No food baggies will be allowed.   Check the sizes of the bags that you can purchase and then make your cards according to that size.   Depending on who all brings cards we will have to take turns at working at the table of cards during the reception.

Schedule for Specialty Fourth Friday Table Set up 4:30 and stay till 9pm then take home
November 20th -3rd Friday will be Christmas ornaments and Jewelry.

Art of Karen Schneider Featured October 23

ART OF KAREN SCHNEIDER FEATURED OCTOBER 23
SPECIAL NOTE CARDS AND CHRISTMAS CARD SALE

The Art Reception for the 4th Friday of October, October 23rd will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the Lower Level of Out of the Box at 48 & R Street in Lincoln, NE.  The Featured Artist will be Karen Schneider and the Featured Music will be the Early Music Consort.  Live music will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  In October. There will be a special area filled with hand crafted note cards and Christmas cards. Hand crafted cards are such a joy to give and receive. They also make memorable gifts. This card sale/exhibit is for Friday night only.

The featured artist was born and raised in the Nebraska countryside, Karen Schneider grew up with a strong affinity for and appreciation of the beauty of unspoiled Nature in all Her glory. Following an 11-year span of touring the world with her late husband, Norman, during his time in the United States Air Force, Karen was delighted to return to her family farm to establish their permanent household in 1979. Thirty-six years later, she’s still on the farm and loving it – except for the constant mowing!

Karen began her journey as an artist in high school, where she dabbled in watercolor. From there, her combined interests in art and the beauty of nature led her to focus on flower arranging. She is a Master Judge for the National Council of Garden Clubs. Karen returned to the world of paint on canvas thanks to the influence and patient tutelage of the late TV personality, Bob Ross, and his official series of oil painting classes, with her first oil painting experience coming from a Bob Ross course at Southeast Community College.

Since then, Karen has been a dedicated fan and student of other TV painters whose courses appear on the Create TV network, such as Jerry Yarnell, Frank Clark, and Kathwren & Gary  Jenkins. These fine artists have helped Karen hone existing skills as well as develop new ones in watercolor, oil, and acrylic paint.

Karen’s paintings have received numerous awards at local shows and the Saunders County Fair. Her art was also featured in the University of Nebraska – Lincoln East Campus Union in 2010.

Featured Music: Lincoln Early Music Consort
The Lincoln Early Music Consort is a chamber ensemble specializing primarily in music from before 1750.  They play replicas of early instruments including recorders, viols, cornamuse, krumhorns and more and have been an ensemble for over 20 years. They have participated in an annual spring concert, appeared with early vocal ensemble Dulces Voces, played for weddings and given demonstrations for schools and other organizations.

Fall or Winter show

LAG is still in need of at least 4 volunteers to run the Fall or Winter show. Julie Lemons has found a judge, but if we wait any longer without letting the judge know when we are going to have a show we may not get the judge due to his/her schedule.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

At the last meeting the President asked for volunteers to be on a NOMINATING committee and help find members to fill the offices of officers and Committees. If you are on a committee at the current time, please let President Jan Blank know. The President also stated that it might be necessary to appoint members.   If you know of someone you would like to see on a committee or one of the officers, please nominate them. Let Jan Blank hear from you.

OOTB NEWS

It came to our attention that not everyone is aware of proper art gallery etiquette.   in a gallery setting,, it is never appropriate to take pictures of the art work—if you have permission from the artist, you may take a photo, but not in the gallery.  It must be done somewhere else.  If you copy or use other artists’ ideas, it is the same as plagiarism in literature.  You could be barred as a member of the Gallery and/or the Artist’s Guild, and even prosecuted.  Also, it is never–under any circumstances–appropriate to touch or feel a piece of art.  And lastly, it is never appropriate to record any of the music at the gallery. Signs are being made to hang in the gallery so that everyone will be reminded of these rules.

August 20th Fourth Friday Reception

We had a great time with lots of food and people attending.  Thanks to all who helped make it so successful!  The LUAU musicians (Lancaster Ukulele Aficionados United) were great—fun listening.

Something new was the jewelry sales.  Three members sold handmade jewelry:  BONNIE SITTIG had beautiful fused glass earrings, necklaces, scarf clips, and more;  MARILYN CHRISTENSEN designed handcrafted silver and precious stone rosaries; and JANE CHESNUT offered unique Brooches crafted from vintage buttons and costume jewelry.

The Featured Artist was JOY FRAME, showing her lovely, delicate water color paintings. Many of her friends were there and enjoyed the all out artistic endeavors.

There were many sales of jewelry and other art pieces and everyone enjoyed what OUT OF THE BOX had to offer.  Hopefully, as many members as possible can attend the last four receptions for this year.  Remember–November and December receptions will be held the THIRD FRIDAYS, not the Fourth Fridays so as to not interfere with Thanksgiving and Christmas.
