Monthly Archives: January 2022

Frozen Free February

Gallery attendance is slow in these “freezing” temps, so the month of February the gallery will be hosting Free February. All Lag members may show in the gallery for no charge.  Bring in several pieces for sale for no fee and no commission.  Only requirement is to work the gallery one or two times.  (times are blocked into three hour shifts – 12 – 3 or 3 – 6 / Sat. 10 – 1:30 or 1:30 – 5)

Change day is Saturday January 29 – all day, or Wednesday February 2nd, 12 – 1

February Monthly Program

Tuesday February 8th is our monthly program.  Keri Kriston is presenting a program on Painting Eyes: Color in the planes of the eye.  She is a portrait artist and a member of our Guild.  She uses high contrast color, and she will share her knowledge of color and explain how she thinks about color in her paintings.  There is a $5 fee for the materials that she will be providing, and request you bring small brushes for acrylic paint.  If you don’t have brushes, don’t worry, we cab share.  If you have a fear of drawing eyes, guess what, she has already done that for you.  Yeah!

We will be accepting membership renewals this night, don’t forget your checkbook.  Must have money in by the end of February to be considered a member of ANAC.

Newly implemented for this year, at every meeting you may put your name in a drawing for a “freebie”.  It may be silly, it might be serious, but all in fun.

Meeting is held at 2634 North 48th St, Lincoln Nebraska.  The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. and free parking is located behind the gallery, and also west of the Mo Java coffee shop.  If you know someone who is interested in joining, please pass this newsletter along and invite them to visit our February meeting, or any one of our monthly meetings.

New Officers

The ballots were tabulated, and the following people have been voted in as the new officers of LAG for 2022.

President – Carmen Stineman

1st Vice President – Kirk Kuenzi

2nd Vice President – Jan Blank

Secretary – Jan Garvin

Treasurer – Gretchen Olberding

In addition, volunteers will be needed for various committees.

Gallery Expansion

No, not more room, BUT we are going to expand our offerings within the gallery.  Beginning in February we will be implementing a “gift shop” area for small handmade art items, similar to our Holiday Boutique; but now – all year long.  We also are encouraging members to bring in “prints” of their work which will be housed in our folding bin.  (must have NO frame, protected and priced) Reminder, if you bring in items you will be expected to spend one or two days hosting in the gallery.

February Mini Show

February’s Mini show’s only specific requirement is your work has to include red.  Does not have to follow Valentine theme.

Criteria:

  • No larger than 9” x 12” (108 square inches) (excluding frame) or 3-Dimensional pieces with a height or width of no more than 12″.
  • Have to have a wire hanger
  • $10 entry fee
  • 1st and 2nd place awards
  • One entry per artist
  • Art works due on gallery change day (all day Saturday Jan. 29 or Wednesday Febr. 2nd, 11 – 12)

We will leave the January miniature show up during February (thus two mini shows at a time) so if you want to include a 5″ x 7″ or smaller picture in the already hung show, we will include it but you will need to pay another $10 entry fee along with your February mini submission and $10 fee.

NOTE:  We will not have the March Mini Show, as we will be displaying the ANAC pre-qualifying show in the gallery.

February First Friday

First Friday Febr. 4 will be held.  Let’s wear something red and bring a valentine (homemade is optional) to share with visitors to the gallery.  Be sure to add your name to the “Doodle” schedule if you are planning to be at the gallery from 6 – 8.  The more the merrier!

ANAC Show

We will be holding our ANAC qualifying show in March at the gallery.  (Spring show will be in April at the LUX)

Depending on how many members we have by March 1, will determine how many pieces can be selected to travel to Broken Bow for this year’s convention.  Please select the one or two pieces that you want to be in the show. It may have been in a previous LAG show, but not in any of the previous ANAC Shows.  It also needs to be done within the last two years, and of course must be original work, and not been done under the supervision of a teacher or coach.

There is a $10 entry fee per piece for this show.

Two-Dimensional work cannot exceed 40″ x 40″, including the frame.

Must be framed or have exposed perimeter edges finished consistent with the art piece.

Wire, no sawtooth hangers

Framed with plexiglass (except pastels)

Any two-dimensional artwork which has glass as a medium must provide a travel container with the same requirements as three-dimensional artwork.

Three-dimensional work (free standing or relief on the wall) shall not exceed 36″ in any direction.

No heavier than 75 lbs. (including the weight of the packing box. (Check with Carmen for further criteria if necessary)

If your piece or pieces are selected to travel to the convention, you will need to pay an additional $10 ANAC fee and travel fee per piece.

(First $10 entry fee covers, judge fee and awards at our gallery / 2nd $10 fee, if selected to be sent to convention, covers ANAC entry fee and travel expense for member delivering and hanging at convention)

These pieces may be NFS, but if you are selling the piece, a buyer will need to understand that if chosen for the convention, they may not “take home” their purchased artwork until after the convention.

This show is for all LAG members, and you do not need to pay the monthly fee of $40, only the $10 entry fee per piece.

I encourage all members to participate.  If your work is selected to represent the Lincoln Artists’ Guild; it is on display with the best of the best from the whole state of Nebraska.  Quite an honor, and great exposure for you as an artist.

Omaha Trip

End of February or first of March, we will be traveling to Omaha to view the Scholastic Art Show, have lunch (of course) and then peruse the isles of the Dick Blick store.  Other options are possible, time permitting and “Risk Dial” cooperating.  Watch for further updates on this.

Gallery

Remember members, if you are displaying artwork, you need to work some hours.  These are set up in 3 hour blocks of time.  Kirk Kuenzi is taking over the schedule so you can sign up for through an app called “Doodler”, or by contacting him.  Please do so as soon as possible!

It was very disappointing that in January there were only 5 people showing at the gallery, and those 5 people could not man all the days themselves, so we were forced to close during the month of January.  Just because you may not have work in the gallery, does not mean you cannot devote a little time to your club.  Hopefully the month of February will see a resurgence of help.

The Gallery Committee discussed the possibility of offering a payment incentive to a LAG member interested in supervising some of the gallery days.  More discussion at the February meeting.  If you have some thoughts on this issue, let Carmen Stineman know.  (402 641 6233)
