OUT AND ABOUT

On July 27th, nine of us trekked to Omaha in a two- car caravan.  First stop:  Tom Stitzman’s “CONNECT GALLERY AND STUDIO”. Refreshments were waiting and we had a tour of the upstairs gallery showing local artists’ 2D and 3D work. Then we toured the basement studios where Tom does his metal sculpture and three others artists rent space for 3D sculptures and metal work.  Tom does metal sculptures, mobiles and table top “movable” pieces.  Second stop: JOSLIN’S—for lunch in the atrium and to view “Renoir to Chagall, Paris and the Allure of Color.”  We enjoyed a docent-guided tour and spent some time in the gift shop.  On the way home, one car stopped at Dick Blick’s for art supplies, and the other car arrived home at 3:30PM.  Everyone had a great art-filled day, and we’re looking forward to our next “outing”.

ANAC Conference

The 49th Annual conference in Alliance NE was held June 12 – June 15th.  Three Lincoln Artists Guild members brought home awards:  Judy Martindale  – Certificate of Excellence for her acrylic collage “Café R&B”, Connie Backas-Yoder – Honorable Mention for her fabric art “Caribbean Fiesta” and Judy Martindale – Honorable Mention for her watercolor “Sax Player”.  The Lincoln Artists’ Guild display was very impressive.  If you haven’t picked up your artwork from Sue Thelen, please give her a call 402-202-1100  She also has artwork from the 2012 traveling show that needs to be picked up.

Historian Needed

The Lincoln Artists’ Guild is in need of a historian. Are you a person who is consistently organizing and thorough?  Are you interested in what has happened in years past?  You may be just the person we are looking for. The primary responsibilities of the historian are:
• Organizing LAG Files and Historical Documents
• Preparing an annual scrapbook/yearbook
• Preserving LAG History
• Researching and compiling LAG history
• Giving historical presentations

All LAG members should be aware of the responsibilities upon the LAG Historian and should help to report and gather documents and records. If this is something you would like to do, please contact Donna Pozehl 402-435-0172.

Member Shows

  • If you are in the area, stop in at the Columbus Art Gallery, 2504 14th Street, Columbus, NE 68601, (402) 563-1016. Julie Lemons’ work will be on display along with Ivan Micek (Chicago) and Robert Eaton (Columbus) during the month of July and into August.  Check out more information on Facebook.

If you wish to exhibit at Meadowlark, contact Donna Pozehl.
  • Sheila Maria Tinkham will be one of the featured artists at Metro Gallery (1316 N Street, Suite 101)  during First Friday,  August 2nd from 4-6pm.  The vast art gallery is eclectic with many different styles and varieties of paintings and drawings.  It’s one block west of Bennet Martin Library.  Everyone is invited to come and enjoy refreshments and the First Friday experience.

Out of the Box

Our first trial with Out of the Box as a gallery for LAG went well.  We have already sold a painting.  Once we start advertising, we hope to do much better.  We have some new members since we started this show opportunity, so I want them to be aware of the show. All members are able to enter the show as long as the rules listed below are followed.

Jody Strauch, Co-Owner of “Out of the Box” has offered LAG gallery space in her store. The new gallery is a mix of architectural material (Jody’s business) and fine art (LAG) that will complement each other.  People looking for architectural stuff can also view the fine art. And those who come to see the art may also find some architectural items.

LAG members wishing to sell their art work can display it at the gallery. Jody will make the sale and collect the money and sales tax. There will be a 25% commission charge. LAG will not be charging any additional fees at this time.

Please read the requirements carefully.    If you have any questions, please call a board member.

1. Must be a current member of LAG
2. Must fill out biography sheet for gallery artist bio book
3. Need to sign waver against fire or damage to art work
4. Send an email with 4-5 picture of artwork to Jody for approval at jodystrauch@msn.com   Jody works in the store only on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 10:00 a.m. so if you are going to take art work for Jody to see it will have to be on those days.  Even if she says all five are approved, please leave only the number that LAG asked for as we want everyone to have a chance to show.  If more art is needed, we will let you know. Keep a list of your approved work so that you can show it at another time.  The number of pieces allowed will be announced closer to the change date.
5. Drop your approved art work at gallery and pick up previous work by designated date.
6. We may leave art work at the gallery for two months.  Make sure you have filled out tags for your work showing the name of the piece, your name, phone# and email on the back of the art piece.  All cards for work must be the same, using the cards that were emailed to you.  Hand the cards in with your work- but do not tape to work.
7. Price artwork realistically and allow for 25% commission.  All work must be for sale or offer prints.
8. Artist will receive payment for sold art at the end of each month
9. All artwork must be professionally framed for hanging
10. A hanging committee will hang all art work.
11. Negative gallery comments, complaints, etc. should be addressed through a LAG Board Member. (For example, if you do not like where your art got hung, do not complain to Jody.

Program Committee Report

The following members participated in July’s monthly program entitled “Masters of a Master”:  Myrna Baade, Jan Blank, Lisa Cassel, Joy Frame, Joyce Jacobs, Donna Justsen, Alex  Fischer, Sheila Tinkham and Donna Pozehl.  It was exciting to view and to hear why the artist chose the picture that they copied.  Lincoln Art Guild artists are GOOD!  It would be hard to choose a favorite.  Many members have asked to do this again, and it will be considered.

All artists wishing to be included in a showing of their Master’s painting at both Bennett Martin Public Library on 14th & N street and the State Building, needs to let Joyce Jacobs (402-488-7187) know immediately so name tags can be made.  The library show is from Aug. 11 to Sept. 9.  It will be hung at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 11th.  That is a Sunday!  On Sept. 6th the library has asked us to have a reception for the first Friday Art Walk and would like as many of the Master’s artist that can attend to be there to answer any questions viewers might have about the paintings.  On Sept. 9 some of the members will transfer the pictures to the State Bldg and the pick-up day for that show is Sept. 27th before 4:00 p.m.
