February LAG Meeting

The February meeting will be our critique program before our Spring Show.  Members may bring one or two completed or not, to the meeting where as a group we will offer suggestions that may help the artists to improve their pieces.  One or two dimensional.  Our members have a wide variety of backgrounds and their suggestions are right on.  Are you stuck? Just need a pat on the back?  Your art family will be there!  See you Tuesday February 14 (this is Valentines Day) so if you don’t have a date, we will see you there.  2634 North 48th.  7:00 p.m.

P.S. The Spring Show and ANAC selection will be in March of this year!

Memberships Due

Don’t delay, if you are planning on joining the Guild I would encourage you to do so soon.  This will allow you to become of member of ANAC (Association of Nebraska Art Clubs).  The Guild pays your membership to this state organization but you need to become a Guild member by Saturday February 25.

Programs

February Program on February 14 will be our critique evening – bring one or two pieces, finished or unfinished, also bring any ATC’s (Artist Trading Cards) that you have completed to trade.  Bring as many pieces as you wish, and trade for that same amount.

March Program on March 14th we will travel next door to Urban Legends to learn more about Alcohol Inks and their many uses.

April Program on April 11, tentative will be a “Make It Cards” to provide a supply of cards for the guild for send out purposes.

Spring Show

Our Spring Show will be held this March at the LUX.  Drop off will be Thursday March 2nd from 12 – 2.  We will be hanging on Thursday afternoon so it will be up for the LUX First Friday event on the 3rd.  The judging for the show will be later in the month, rather than on Friday the 3rd, so it will allow the judge to take her time and do critiques of each work.  Keep in mind these important facts:

  • work must be original, do not copy from a calendar, etc.
  • maximum size is 40 inches by 40 inches (including frame) for two dimensional work and three dimensional work must not exceed 36 inches any way and weight 75 pounds or less (including traveling container if chosen to travel to the ANAC show in June.
  • Gallery wrapped canvas is acceptable providing the edges are finished and no staples are showing.
  • piece has been completed within the last two years, and has not been shown in a previous ANAC show.

For this show you may bring three pieces (including having been in a past LAG show, but done within the last two years.)  Entry fee for each piece entered is $10, payable to the Guild.  Om addition to our ribboned awards, we will also be selecting our ANAC entries also.  The number of ANAC entries is determined by how many members we have by May 1.   Any questions, email me.

Artist Challenge

At our January “first of the year” meeting, I challenged the members present, and now to the members not attending, to challenge yourself to creating your own “Artist Trading Card” and bring it to the February meeting.  If you are unfamiliar with ATC’s as they are called, you can check them out online, but in short, they are tiny, original pieces of art created with the intention of swapping or trading it with another artist, not selling it.  You may create as many as you wish, and we will trade at the February meeting.  The rules are:

  1. size – 2.5 x 3.5 inches
  2. ATCs are traded not sold
  3. Signed and dated on the back
  4. neatness counts
  5. Do NOT trade other artist’s cards
  6. Cardstock or heavier material, not thin drawing paper

Program Compensation

We have had extraordinary programs this past year, and as officers, we feel that the time and planning required of the presenters warranted a larger payment than we were offering.  After of vote of 4-0 we passed the change to “pay presenters, members or not, a compensation of $100.  In addition we will pay a materials fee that is not covered from a members materials fee”.  This applies only to “hands on” programs.
