Grand Opening

GRAND OPENING AT OUT OF THE BOX

We will be celebrating the Grand Opening of our new gallery at Out of The Box on Saturday, February 8th, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Please let everyone know, and let’s have a big crowd there this time.

It looks like we will have over 300 pieces there. This should give everyone something to chose from for their Valentine. Art will be on display both upstairs and downstairs, including a special display of small to miniature artwork.

We hope to get all members enjoying the gallery and displaying their art work, big or small.

We are excited about this great gallery space provided by the owners of OUT OF THE BOX, and we hope to see you there! Refreshments will be available. If you have any questions, please call one of the Out of the Box Committee members.

Febr 4th Program

Febr. 4th is the next monthly LAG meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Capitol City Christian Church.  It will be an evening of observing and gaining tips on how to improve your painting.  Carolyn Albracht from Aurora, Ne. will be there to critique your pictures. Please bring one you would like her to see and get suggestions for how you can make a good picture better. Read about her qualifications in the January newsletter. Bring a friend and spend an evening with “artsy” artists.

QUOTE

This is a quote by the artist Richard Schmid.

Three things to know to succeed.
l.  Know what you want to paint.
2. Analytical grasp of what you see.
3. The skill to control the process of painting.

Membership Renewal

Why is it so important to get your membership in?  The number of paintings we can send to the ANAC conference is based on a percentage of our total membership.  The more members we have, the more work we’ll be able to submit to the conference.  Even if you don’t plan on entering the ANAC show, pleae help out our club and send in your membership dues by February 25th.

LAG 2014 Seward Show

The 2014 theme for Seward’s 4th of July city celebration  is “There is No Place Like Home!”  The LAG theme for the show will be “Home is Where the Art Is!” Please get your art ready. We will be showing in June and July. More details will come for hanging and taking down art work. A reception and art demo/book talk will be held on July 4th. The Seward Art Council sponsors a trophy for the People’s Choice Award each year and an article is put in their paper. Also, the recipient of the award will be offered a solo show the following year!

Please follow our standard LAG rules for hanging your art: wire hung, paint must be dry, all work must be original, etc… All LAG members are welcome to enter two to three pieces in the show. There is not an entry fee. But this year, if you are not driving and catching a ride, we are asking for a courtesy donation for gas (approximately a dollar a painting). The same drivers go every year and gas has gotten expensive.  If you are not going along to help hang or take down the show, please be sure to thank the people that make the show happen!

One LAG Member Supporting Another

One LAG member supporting another makes a difference and strengthens the Guild. Guild member, Julie Lemons has been developing an art instruction book for over four years.  She is hoping to publish her first book and later do book signings and art demonstrations at the zoos represented in her book, giving a percent of sales to the zoos. She would also like to do book signings at places such as Noyes Art Gallery and libraries in Lincoln.  This may sound a little “Wild and Crazy.”  The book is called “Naturally Wild: How to Paint Animals Using Pastels.” She needs help to get the word out. Please check her publishing fundraiser at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1247122796/naturally-wild-how-to-paint-animals-using-pastels

Below is a link to our member Keith Larsen’s blog.  Keith publishes the Lincoln 55+ Seniors newspaper and has helped many LAG members through his paper. Julie would even tell you, “I didn’t think I was qualified to be in Keith’s paper since I am not quite 55 !  But I am working on that, too!!” http://lincoln55plus.org/2013/12/16/kickstarter-julie-lemons-new-art-book-project/
