November LAG Program Demo by Jan Blank

The November program will be a quick overview of Oil Painting,
including methods, tools, and tips.  Jan Blank will be using some of her paintings to
illustrate and will be doing a little demonstrating, also.  Because of the
nature of the medium, such as slow dry time and expense of products, members
need to only bring pens.  Jan will be handing out some written material and if
they want to make notes, they can use the back of the handouts.  Hopefully
members will be able to use the information to start oil painting on their
own at home.

JAN BLANK BIO
I’ve been involved with drawing, painting, and crafts since I was very
young.  My earliest memories are of designing and making clothes for my
paper dolls, which was a big thing in the 40s and 50s.  I’m mostly
self-taught, but took every art course available in High School and College.
After college I taught Elem. School in Merced, California–met Don, my
husband, when he was a dentist in the Air Force and stationed
nearby–married him and moved to McCook, Nebraska. I taught school there,
raised 3 boys and moved with Don to Lincoln after he retired in 2011.  I
credit much of my artistic success to the Art Department at McCook Community
College, taking classes in every medium offered, but settling on Oil as my
favorite.  Lately, I’ve also been painting with acrylics, and enjoying all
the pluses that this medium provides.  I was quite involved with the McCook
Art Guild, and have enjoyed what LAG has to offer to its members.

OCTOBER LAG MEETING

A combined meeting with the board members and the Gallery committee made some important decisions about the music program for 2016.  Other discussion included the Fall/Winter show.  A committee for the show was formed at the general meeting.  The Show Committee met later and decided to have the show in December to be judged by Pam Hynek from Fremont.

The program was a critique done by our friend from Beatrice, Bev Monfelt.  She gave very insightful information on each painting from which the whole group benefited.

SEPTEMBER’S FOURTH FRIDAY EVENT

Rafael Garcia was the featured artist with lots of paintings to display his unique style.

The food table was beautifully decorated by Rafael with a Mexican rug and a large vase of colorful fresh flowers.

Rafael also brought pastries to share from a local Mexican bakery.

The music was a fun blend of hammered dulcimer, flute and percussion music, performed by Lois Rood and her instructor, Cindy Popek.  While the musicians performed, five women from a local dance studio wearing original handmade outfits, interpretively danced for our visual delight.

Refreshments

Refreshments for the November meeting will be served by Julie Ralston and Merry Ford.  There will not be a meeting in December or January.   In January we will have our Chinese New Year Dinner.  More about that, later.

WE WANT MEMBERS for NOVEMBER 20th SPECIALTY TABLE & THIRD FRIDAY RECEPTION.

5pm to 9pm. Think Upcoming Holidays. We have had a Specialty Table at the last few Friday Receptions, & the sales have been good. For the November 20th Friday Reception we are inviting members to share their original gift items. We are hoping to offer our patrons a nice variety of gift items for the holidays. Price point should be 40.00 & under … maybe, ornaments, gourd art, paper mache, jewelry, wire trees, cards. Think items that can be displayed on a table, not a lot of small wall art. THIS IS A ONE NIGHT SALE ONLY. ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE TAKEN HOME AT THE END OF THE NIGHT. (Unless told differently by Jody or Myra.)                                                           1. Jody or Myra need to approve product to be sold before the sale night.
2
. Come around 4:45 or earlier to set up the table & stay for the entire evening (9pm) & help with clean-up.
3. Bring a separate inventory sheet all filled out with description, price and a LAG tag attached to the item.
4. You will be in charge of marking off what items are sold & leave the inventory sheet with sold items checked off or a copy of the sheet in the LAG notebook under your name.

This should be a fun evening and a great way to start the holidays off with some good sales.

Jingle Bells SALE HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Jingle Bells SALE HAS BEEN CANCELLED
The Nov 20th – Dec 31 special 10% Jingle bells Sale has been canceled. When I spoke with Jody from Out of the Box the other day she voiced her opinion and said she felt original artwork really should not be in a discount sale. We are taking her advice and have cancelled the special 10% Jingle Bell sale. Jody also mentioned that she feels when we offer 40.00 & under items on a specialty table with every Fourth Friday Reception we are already offering customers beautiful original art at a great value and that is enough in itself.
