SEWARD SHOW
LAG Seward 2014 Show: Congratulations for People’s Choice Award
This year’s show was heavily viewed. Three top pieces were very close in votes. So, the ballot counters felt all three needed to receive ribbons. Drum roll…and the winners are:
1. Jan Pippitt with An Historic Home
2. Jan Blank with Cute Chick
3. Judy Martindale with Mother and Child
Jan Pippitt will be receiving a trophy and the opportunity to do a solo show in 2015 in Seward! Way to go, Jan!!
*All those who have art in the show may meet at 5 p.m. behind Culvers’ in the Sam’s parking lot on Tuesday July 29th at 5 p.m. to car pool. Or please meet us at the Civic Center in Seward at 6 p.m. Thank you to all those that participated. It was a well liked show!

LAG August Program: Landscapes in Pastels
Let’s Talk Chalk! Join us Tuesday, August 5th for the monthly LAG program. Bring your pastels or other media for a down to earth experience! Follow artist, Julie Lemons as she demonstrates the use of chalk pastels. Supplies needed for the Talk Chalk Demo should include a set of chalk pastels, unscented hair spray, a couple of paint brushes, kneaded eraser, pastel paper or mat board, vinyl gloves, baby wipes, and photos of landscapes you wish to paint. You may want to purchase a set of pastels with another artist, breaking the colors in half may provide more colors this way and lessens the cost. Julie will have samples of the board she uses for her paintings. Sheets of 40″ x 32″ suede board will be available for purchase, $15 ($45 savings). The colors red and bluish green will be available for purchase. Learn about chalk pastels. You may follow with your own media and just take notes. Enjoy stepping into a new horizon with this chalky experience!!!
JULY PROGRAMS
Last month Angelo Carroll, President of the Lincoln Camera Club, shared lots of information on photography at the monthly meeting. It was very interesting to hear how many pictures she takes at one sitting till she gets the picture she wants. She has sat for more than 12 hours to capture just the right scene and lighting in her camera’s eye.. It takes patience just as we members need when developing a painting.. She really stressed the importance of showing ones art and not letting them sit in a closet. Naturally, her camera is much, much better than a lot of the “point and shoot” ones, but many questions were answered for those who have better cameras. No doubt, they will now be able to take better reference photos.
The second Friday Art Walk was July 11, and the theme was “Christmas In July”. The reception host and hostess set up areas at Out Of The Box with revolving Christmas Carolers, toy soldiers, Christmas Jesters, along with a decorated tree. Christmas music was playing while visitors enjoyed Christmas goodies from the decorated reception table. It was a steady number of people all evening, and they lingered to view Sartore’s photos and members’ art. Many commented on the nice blend of the LAG pictures along with Out Of The Box’s inventory. The best part was a picture was spoken for along with another that was sold earlier in the week. The evening was a success, and fellow artists became better acquainted with one another.
REMINDER: THE HALLOWEEN PEOPLE ARE COMING!!!
The Halloween people return to Out of the Box on August 15th, so we have to have all our art work out of the upper level by August 12. To fill the lower level with art for August, we are going to start with five pieces of 2D art work per member. You may leave five pieces you currently have at Out of the Box or bring new work. Everything else will have to be taken home.
Please make a new inventory sheet of the work you will have at Out of the Box by Aug.12th..
Be sure to plan so that you will be able to exchange your work or add five pieces (if you are not currently showing) by August 12.
Out of the Box
We are in need of a couple more members that would like to be on the Out of the Box Committee. If you are interested in helping out at the Gallery and getting better acquainted with our members, please contact Donna Pozehl 402-435-0172.
If you are new at showing in our Gallery at Out of the Box, please do not call Jody to get the information you need to show. Do not just stop in with your work. Please contact one of the members of the Out of the Box Committee first. If you have not shown before, Jody will have to approve your work, but before you email her pictures of some of your work (do not take it in to her). Here is just a list of a few things that you will need if she approves your work: you will need to have a signed liability form, Inventory sheet, the proper tags, know when the next change date is, know that all work has to be original, no prints, what is required for hanging & etc. So please contact these committee members who will help you get started: Donna Pozehl 402-435-0172, Jan Blank 402-488-0388, Will Rennick 402-742-3414,
APPRECIATION
A special thank you goes out to Connie Backus-Yoder for donating a card rack for our Out of the Box Gallery. We can only have the cards out when one of the members is working at the store. Therefore, since we will have to move in August to the lower level, the steering committee has decided that we will start this when we move back upstairs. Start getting your cards ready!
This is a very nice card rack so be sure to thank Connie.
