ANAC UPDATES

SAVE THE DATES!  The 2015 ANAC convention in Columbus is June 10th to 13th at the Central
Community College. Our judge is Lisa Ober, a pastel artist from Missouri. “Cross Your Art” is the ANAC theme for 2015. Dorm rooms will be available again, along with evening entertainment and meals on campus. Other classes will include plasma cutting. The ANAC board is putting on the 2015 conference and are looking forward to another spectacular conference for our members.  When you join the guild for the whole year, you are automatically a member of ANAC (Association of Nebraska Art Clubs, includes 43 art clubs across the state).

Start creating your works of art for the ANAC state level competition. In early 2015, LAG will hold a preliminary competition for art selections to advance to the state level. This is another good reason to get your LAG dues in as soon as possible for 2015. Rules for ANAC and LAG art shows are in your LAG directory. If you have questions, contact Julie Lemons or see ANAC website www.nebraskaartclubs.org.

Let the Art Wave: 2015 Seward LAG Art Show

We have been invited once more to show our art in the Seward Civic Center’s Langworthy Gallery. We will be showing for the months of June and July. Our theme is “Let the Art Wave.” The challenge is for all that enter in the show, the art will need to have an American Flag represented in their piece! The piece could be a whole flag…but use your choice of medium, style, and interpretation. The Seward’s theme title is yet to be determined, but they are in the works of deciding. However, the theme will be a dedication to WWII veterans for July 4, 2015.

We encourage artists to start working on the art now!!! We will individually create the FLAG art.  Later, we may want to show the works as a group show other places (after the Seward show). Works will include 2-D and 3-D art. This gallery has insurance on the art that is exhibited. Dates for setting up and taking down will be announced later.  The Art Council in Seward provides a beautiful trophy for the People’s Choice Award and the winner asked to have a solo show in the gallery. Paint, sculpture, wire together, polish wood, mold clay, cast some glass….get busy!! So, let our art wave with patriotism!! If you have any questions, contact Julie Lemons, jewelslemons@yahoo.com or 40-570-9476.

CHINESE NEW YEAR PARTY AND CHANGE OF OFFICERS

A slate of officers has been nominated for 2015.  Instead of a President and Vice President, we are going to try a Co-Presidency. So far, members in the running are Jan Blank and Julie Lemons for Co-Presidents, Lois Rood for Secretary, and Wanda Medina for Treasurer. If anyone would  like to present any other nominees for offices, please be prepared to make the nominations at the Chinese New Year Party. (Please get permission from those potential nominees prior to the New Year Party to save time). There will be a very short meeting and ceremony at 6:15 PM, to vote for new officers, and then pass on duties for the newly elected officers.

For this New Year’s party, we are inviting Jody and Steen, Myra and her husband, and Ted and his special friend from OOTB as our guests. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet them and thank them if you haven’t done so already.

The Chinese New Year party will be at the Imperial Palace Chinese Restaurant, 701 North 27th on January 17th, starting at 6PM. We will have a room for ourselves, and delicious food will be served family style at individual tables. Please contact Rita Holland (telephone #:  402-770-8292) with the number of people you have coming. If you want to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped art-related gift worth around $20. Significant others are welcome to attend. The meal cost is $11, tip not included, and this is payable at the event. Checks are welcome, and should be made out to LAG.  For those who need special meals, order your food at the door  and pay for it there, and tell them you are with the LAG party in the back room. They will serve those special orders at the same time they serve the rest of the LAG members.

NEW NIGHT FOR ART OPENINGS

Lots of new and exciting things will be happening in 2015.  Lois Rood has graciously volunteered to line up the music for our special openings, which will change from First Fridays to Fourth Fridays from 5-9PM.  Lois is planning a multicultural series of music, so we should attract new and different people to our OOTB Gallery. The possibilities are endless for making  Out Of The Box a destination for art and culture on Fourth Friday Nights!!

LAG-OOTB ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Our one-year anniversary celebration will be on  November 22nd, all day long.  Please attend to meet and greet customers, and also to see who won awards in the LAG Fall Show!  (On the upstairs south walls, we have over 40 entries–the largest so far.)  We are having anniversary Cake and Ice Cream with various toppings starting at 12:00 noon, and continuing until 4:00PM.  We are all asked to wear “toppings” on our heads.Be creative–decorate a hat or make a new one—use your own artistic skills–the customers will know we are LAG members because of our hats.  Be prepared to be amazed!  Rita Holland,  one of our LAG members, has consigned her life-long collection of beautiful and fun Christmas decorations and manger scenes.  A MUST SEE!!  Things are selling fast, so hurry in for a special gift for yourself or someone special this Christmas.  Also check out the handmade gifts items made by your fellow members—think: teacher gifts, gift exchanges, stocking stuffers, etc.

NOVEMBER FIRST FRIDAY

Our November FIRST FRIDAY event featured the Jazz Band, JIVE MERCHANT, and was well attended.  As always the food and wine was great, and the company was even better!  Several people responded to the plea for smaller items in the $30.00 and below price range as a Christmas promotion and the display was impressive.

Renew your membership!!!

It is time to renew your LAG membership. The Steering Committee has lowered the fee to $35.00 per person and $55.00 per couple. If you would like to have your name in the new Directory and take part in the ANAC State Show you need to have your membership paid by the February 3, 2015, which is our regular program meeting at Capitol City Christian Church at 7800 Holdrege St.
