Chinese New Year Party

Saturday Jan. 21st was the annual Chinese New Year Party for the Lincoln Artists’ Guild with 31 people in attendance.  It was held at the Imperial Palace in Lincoln and we were furnished with five courses of some wonderful food.  So much food that there was even leftovers.  Way to go Imperial Palace.  Their decorations were wonderful and they were the best hosts.  We started off the evening with word searches, voting on self portraits and having a short business meeting.  Officers ballot for 2017 was presented, voted on and accepted.  Officers are:  Carmen Stineman, President; Lisa Cassel, 1st Vice President; Janet Fraley, 2nd Vice President; Julie Childers, Secretary; and Ethel Mount, Treasurer.  The passing of the torch so to speak followed by the new president Carmen Stineman presenting Jan Blank with a hand made wooden door decoration in the shape of a cross for all of her hard work and dedication to the Guild for the last two years.  Following the meal, winners were announced from the judging done earlier.  Winners were:  Donna Pozehl for the most bizarre/extreme portrait; Reida Wrenholt for the most realistic; Lenn Marshell for the most comical; Will Rennick for the most interesting use of media; Myrna Baade for the most colorful; and Lisa Cassel for the most identifiable to the artist.  Climaxing the meeting was the gift exchange, and then just chatting the evening away.  I wish to thank all the people that helped make the evening possible, especially, Donna Pozehl, Wanda Medina, Jan Blank, Lisa Cassel, and Reida Wrenholt for the time they gave up to sculpt, and paint the taxidermy chickens.  Looking forward to next years party.  Mark your calendars for January 2018!  Carmen Stineman

THIRD FRIDAY DEC. 18th

We had a great night. The gallery was so festive, lights, trees, and sounds of beautiful classical & holiday music echoed throughout the gallery. Music  on keyboard was provided by Bill Carpenter & Svetlana Yashirin. We had many patrons and many were there to support our Featured Artists Greg Sparling. The festive season inspired our artists to fill the gallery with prefect last minute gifts and sales were great!! The gallery was overflowing with new artwork and art from our recently Juried Winter Show. At the end of the evening Julie Childers tallied up the People’s Choice Award from the Winter Show and we were very delighted to hear Greg Sparling won. It was a great way to end a beautiful Night. Hope everyone has a safe & happy holiday, & Happy New Year. Jane Chesnut

November LAG Program Demo by Jan Blank

The November program will be a quick overview of Oil Painting,
including methods, tools, and tips.  Jan Blank will be using some of her paintings to
illustrate and will be doing a little demonstrating, also.  Because of the
nature of the medium, such as slow dry time and expense of products, members
need to only bring pens.  Jan will be handing out some written material and if
they want to make notes, they can use the back of the handouts.  Hopefully
members will be able to use the information to start oil painting on their
own at home.

JAN BLANK BIO
I’ve been involved with drawing, painting, and crafts since I was very
young.  My earliest memories are of designing and making clothes for my
paper dolls, which was a big thing in the 40s and 50s.  I’m mostly
self-taught, but took every art course available in High School and College.
After college I taught Elem. School in Merced, California–met Don, my
husband, when he was a dentist in the Air Force and stationed
nearby–married him and moved to McCook, Nebraska. I taught school there,
raised 3 boys and moved with Don to Lincoln after he retired in 2011.  I
credit much of my artistic success to the Art Department at McCook Community
College, taking classes in every medium offered, but settling on Oil as my
favorite.  Lately, I’ve also been painting with acrylics, and enjoying all
the pluses that this medium provides.  I was quite involved with the McCook
Art Guild, and have enjoyed what LAG has to offer to its members.
