December Program

Members braved a cold winter night to attend December’s LAG meeting. We watched an educational and informative program about Georgia O’Keefe. As a young farm girl she aspired to become an artist. Painting well into her 90’s she is one of the more famous of women artists whose work continues to influence contemporary artists today. Her paintings depicted enlarged flowers, bones, desert landscapes and clouds. Popcorn and conversation made for a relaxed evening before the flurry of seasonal activities began for Lincoln Art Guild Members!

Backpack Fundraiser was a Great Success Thanks to Donna Pozehl

Donna Pozehl deserves a huge round of applause for the wonderful work she did putting together the Backpack fundraiser reception.  There were many hearty Nebraskans who braved the cold to view over one hundred paintings displayed throughout Out of the Box. The show continues until January !st, so if you would like to see some lovely art or make last minute purchases, you should drop by Out of The Box on 48th and R south of Best Buy.

Margaret Mead, the noted anthropologist, once wrote: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”  The demonstrations by Julie Lemons and Jude Martindale were inspiring.  Cartoonist Kirk Kuenzi drew wonderful caricatures of different people at the event. On December 5th,  the opening for the Lincoln Artist Guild art sale and fund raiser for the Lincoln Back Pack Program, about 800 dollars of art was sold!. It was decided to extend the show and fund raiser for the rest of December, so hopefully there will be more sales. A big thanks to Out of the Box for sharing their space with us so this event was possible. Many thanks to all the LAG members for bringing art and especially to those who gave a percent of the sales to the Back Pack proiect. And a special thanks to Donna Pozehl for all her work to make this event happier and to Jan Blank for doing the silent auction. I think the Lincoln Artist Guild can be very proud of this event!

1st Vice President: Will Rennick has decided not to keep the position for 2014, so we need someone to be Vice President.

Please consider filling these positions for 2014.

From the President

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
When I took the position of President I had no idea what would be ahead of us in 2013.   What a ride it has been!  Our membership has continued to grow, thanks to all the outreach of members.  Keep telling everyone about the Guild and I think we will see even more growth in 2014.

The guild is an all volunteer organization, so thanks to those who helped out and continue to make our organization a success.  I want to thank the Board members and the Committee members for their dedication and service to the Guild in 2013, and also want to remind all LAG members of their responsibilities as Guild Members.  Working together and helping is the only way the guild will continue to grow and succeed.  I also want to thank so many of you that have been willing to answer my questions and discuss what we should do next on many projects.  I’m grateful to all of you for your support and encouragement.  With best wishes! Donna Pozehl

Chinese New Year Party Replaces January Meeting

The Chinese New Year party will take the place of the regular monthly LAG meeting for January.  Since you all have been busy getting ready for Christmas, there probably hasn’t been time for you to do much painting.  But once December is over, get those paints out and be ready for the February 4th LAG meeting.  Carolyn Albracht will be the professional artist at the meeting to critique your work.  More information will be in the January newsletter.

The Chinese New Year Party will be on Jan. 18th at 6:00 at 701 North 27th St. ( Imperial Palace).  The cost is $11.00 which can be paid to Connie at the door that night.  This is the year of the horse and we hope to see everyone there. Vegetarian meals are available but must be ordered from the menu as you come in. We will have a gift exchange during the party.  The gift you bring will need to be art related, for example, something you have made (art, art cards, etc.), art supplies, or an art gift certificate.  If you bring a gift you will receive a gift.  You are not obligated to bring a gift and may choose not to exchange. Please e-mail  Wanda with your RSVP at medina@inebraska.com or call Reida Wrenholt at 402-489-0917.

Membership Directories

Membership books: We will not be making a new membership directory for 2014.  After January 31st,  all new information will be published in the newsletter.  You will be able to update your book with the changes.  If you haven’t picked up your membership book for 2013-2014, they will be available at the Chinese New Year Dinner.  Please join us for the dinner and pick up your books.
