SEPTEMBER LAG MEETING

Tuesday was a very interesting and informative art demonstration of the CitroSolv transfer method shown by Bonnie Sittig. CitroSolv art work done by Bonnie, Terri Allen and Judy Martindale was passed around for members to view.  For those interested in trying this art technique, National Geographic magazines, coupons and CitroSolv samples were offered to members.

Art Installation for Lincoln Elementary School

Linda Stephen creates three artworks for school permanent art installation. LAG member Linda Stephen and illustrator Andrea Scott unveiled three collaborative art collages for Pyrtle Elementary School in Lincoln August 18. “Celebrating Pyrtle Memories” includes colored pencil drawings from 420 students along with handmade papers, sketches and origami. The art honors the learning and adventures of each grade, Kindergarten through 5th, and will be installed in the school office this fall.

This project, which began in March 2013, involved the entire Pyrtle community – teachers (ideas), staff (planning), students (art), parents, PTO (materials and framing funding).  The goal was to involve every student at the school so each student would be able to call the final piece her or his own. It took hundreds of hours to complete – more than 225 hours from Linda and Andrea and 250 hours from student artists – and honors the teachers, families, staff and students past and present of this friendly neighborhood school. See photos of the process at www.facebook.com/LindaStephenOrigamiArt.

November 1st Shows

Thank you to all the members who have volunteered to help hang the State Office Building Show (Chaired by Jana Baumann) and the Fall Juried Show (Chaired by Donna Pozehl)  on November 1st.    We will start hanging the SOB show at 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M, and then the Fall Show at the Bennett Martin Library, (two blocks north of the State Office Building) at 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.  Hopefully we will get both shows hung by noon and ready for the judging at Bennett Martin Library by 1:00.

Mark your calendars for November 1st for 9:00 A.M.  We are counting on your help.

Program Committee

The next LAG meeting is Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Capitol City Christian Church.  Bring a picture you would like to have critiqued.  Ann Pagel will be there to point out the strong points of the picture and to make suggestions as to how to make it even better.  Ann has been involved with the visual arts for more than three decades.  She has been the curtor for the Lincoln Art collectors Karen and Robert Duncan since 2006 and received the Heart of Arts Award in the 2009 Mayor’s Art Awards.  A full bio will be at the October meeting for members to read.

The August monthly program was led by Bonnie Sittig who showed a demonstration given by an artist who was accomplished in how to use CitraSolv to create stunning, multi colored paper.  This can then be used for the backgrounds for creative designs applied with ink.  She was assisted by members familiar with this technique and showed some of their finished pictures.  Sample papers were shared with members to take home and create their own pictures.  It was a facinating evening of learning something new.

Officers/Committees 2014

It is that time of year again.  The Nominating Committee will be contacting you to see if you are interested in chairing or helping out with any of the Clubs positions.  Join the team and get involved!

If you are now an officer, a committee chair person or on a committee and wish to continue for next year please let Janet Spale know 402-464-1226.  We would love to have you all back for another year.  If you choose not to remain for another year, please write your duties down for the next person.  Include when, where, everything down in writing so the next person will know what the duties are and when they should be done.

It takes all of us to make this organization work, so please consider volunteering.

STATE OFFICE BUILDING SHOW, NOVEMBER 1ST

With the LAG Fall Show being held at Bennett Martin Library, we still have the wall space at the State Office building.  Please bring some of your art work to be shown at the SOB.  We will have the two shows going at the same time.    Delivery will be November 1, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:00 and pick up will be November 27th  before 3:00.    Please note the pick up date.  The State Office building will be closed over Thanksgiving weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity for our members to show their work in a great high traffic location.
