August Program

We are going to be kids again and the theme of the monthy program is “Sidewalk Chalk Drawing” Following the reference material of David Zinn, we will attempt to create whimsical art on the sidewalk and alleyway by the gallery. If the heat is too bad, we will do the same thing in the building on paper. Materials are simple – kids sidewalk chalks. Dollar store, garage sale, etc. Nothing fancy. One additional item…….BLACK, which is not usual in a kid set of chalk. You will need either: vine or willow charcoal OR compressed charcoal or black soft pastel OR black sidewalk chalk.

Additional but not required:

soft pastels (not oil pastels) – these are smaller versions of fat chalks – and will wash away eventually also

kneeling pad (foam, blanket, etc.)

Smudging tool (bare hands, or glove, rag, piece of felt, dry sponge)

Baby Wipes OR something to clean your hands periodically

yardstick (to make straight lines)

dust broom (sweep concrete area prior to drawing)

I have purchased the book “The Chalk Art Handbook” by David Zinn and we will start the evening with some practice prior to going outside, so bring a pencil and scratch paper. You also can check out David Zinn on Facebook and watch his short videos.

See you Tuesday August 9th at 7:00, 2634 North 48th St.

Change Day

Wednesday July 27th is the usual change day at the gallery. Some of you will keep your wall spots and have paid a six month fee for that privilege; some of you will keep your spots and pay for a one month fee; and some of you may wish to change spots (Pam Apley is taking over Carmen’s spots for August); and some of you may choose to put in only one or two pieces to fill in unchosen wall spots. Don’t forget, we again have a mini show. August – “Sport-tastic” $5 for each entry. If we have an empty space, we will combine the earlier mini show entries to one area (no cost).

Support System Needed

As some of you know Debbie Martin is facing some daunting health issues right now and she is needing some help. She has been a staunch worker for our guild and now there are some ways that the guild members can help her out. She would appreciate a text (402) 570-2265 checking in on her. Other ways we can help out are helping with rides, watering flowers, picking up a few groceries, or Chinese food, etc.

Please let Lynette Fast, 402-318-8517, know if you can be on a call list to provide some help periodically.

If you want to send her a note, Debbie’s address is: 31118 N 58th Street, Lincoln, NE 68507

Gallery News

It was decided at the LAG July business meeting that we will not renew our contract to DK Enterprises for the space at 2634 North 48th street. It is with a heavy heart that we are discontinuing our gallery endeavor. Several factors came into play; one was the hardship that was incurred when such a small group of participants were giving their time to host the space, and another was not enough income coming in from memberships and monthly wall rent to cover the cost. We will continue with the gallery through October, but by the end of the month, ALL work must be removed. We will continue to rent the meeting room once a month, and also the storage section in the basement. More information to follow. Carmen Stineman
