October Meeting Review

Many members brought art work to be critiqued at the October LAG meeting. Ann Pagel was very good about making suggestions and answering questions on each picture.  There was a wide assortment of styles presented which made the critiques very interesting to all. There were several fairly new artists in the group and Ann was good about helping them extend their skills and abilities for future paintings.

Artwork Needed for The Lincoln Underground

Calling all artists, including photographers! There is a wonderful new magazine that features black and white paintings, drawings and black and white photographs in the inside of the magazine and color photographs for the front page.  If you want to be part of an exciting and well written literary magazine that features both local and international talent, join the Lincoln Underground and submit your original artwork or photographs.  There is the thrill of getting your artwork shown to a wide audience, and you will receive a complimentary issue of the Lincoln Underground magazine if your work is featured.   You may contact thelincolnunderground@gmail.com and write to Amy Keller, the editor, for more information. The magazine is outstanding and can be found at Bodhi Imports, Meadowlark, Crescent Moon Coffee Shop and Indigo Bridge Bookstore. This Fall, Sheila Maria Tinkham had one of her poems, “Sleep”, featured in the magazine. You could be next!

Lincoln Art Guild General Meeting Minutes

October 1, 2013
President Donna Pozehl opened the meeting and introduced guest, Len Marshall.
The treasurer’s report was approved.
The program committee chair reported that Howard Kaye will demonstrate how to paint shadows at the November meeting and said to come with questions.
Jan Spale, Nominating Committee Chair, announced they still need a historian.
Donna announced that if you don’t have a membership book to please pick one up.  Joy moved we mail the book to members if they request one and are unable to attend the meetings.  She also announced they still haven’t found the banner made for the NE Book Store shows.  Does any member know its whereabouts?
On November 1st there will be two receptions – the LAG juried show and Out of the Box.  Volunteers are needed for goodies.  The volunteers will also need to bring tablecloths and decorations and wear name tags with Lincoln Artists Guild and your name printed on them.
Donna brought lists stating rules effective after Nov. 1 for displaying at Out of the Box and asked members to note changes.  She also mentioned the board was working on a sign for Out of the Box to make people aware of the LAG artwork being displayed there.
It was moved and seconded by Joyce Jacobs and Julie Lemons respectively to adjourn.
Respectfully submitted,
Bonnie Sittig, Secretary

NEEDED!!!

We are in need of a punch bowl and coffee pot for the Out of the Box Reception on November 1st.  If you have one that the Guild could borrow for the evening, please let Will Rennick (402-742-3414) or Donna Pozehl (402-435-0172) know.

ANAC Traveling Show

The ANAC traveling show will be in Lincoln at the Noyes Gallery from the 13th to the 27th of November.  A reception will be held on Saturday November 23rd from 1:00 – 3:00.  Please contact Sue Thelen at 402-202-1100 or  thelenfamily@windstream.net  if you can help with hanging the show, providing snacks and drinks for the reception, or with taking the show down.  Please invite all family and friends to the reception. This would also be a good time to invite any artists you know to attend the reception and join LAG.

November Meeting

The November 5th LAG meeting will be held at Capitol City Christian Church at 7:00 p.m. and Howard Kaye will be demonstrating “How To Shadow”.  Many members have requested this program and I’m sure everyone will gain a lot from Howard’s demonstration.  He is a skillful and knowledgeable artist and will welcome your questions.

Cathedral Art Show

LAG had a great representation at the Cathedral Art Show as five of our members showed their work. The Cathedral holds a craft fair every spring and the art show is held every October.    Anyone interested in showing their art next year may contact Samantha Kavan at 402-202-8304.

New Rules for Out Of the Box

Lincoln Artists’ Guild’s show opportunity with Jody Strauch, co-owner of “Out of the Box”, has made a few changes in her requirements for hanging at the store.  They will be enlarging the store in late November by renting the upper part of the store as well as the lower floor. ( However, the Halloween store will have a three month contract to rent the upper part for 3 months of the year until their contract is cancelled.)  This  means that we will have a front door exposure.  She wants to give us more space than what we have now, so start painting.  She really likes the large paintings.

The current requirements below may be subject to change.

  1. Must be a current member of Lincoln Artists’ Guild
  2. All work must be original work.  NO PRINTS
  3. All work must be for sale.
  4. Artist must fill out a bio sheet.
  5. Need to sign waver against fire or damage to art work
  6. Send 4-5 picture of original artwork to Jody to have work approved jodystrauch@msn.com   Jody works in the store only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if you are going to take pictures or work for Jody to see it will have to be on those days.  She does get her emails every day.
  7. We can display art work that needs small easels (to set on a shelf not on the floor).  These will be supplied by the artist.
  8. Drop your approved art work by designated date and pick up previous work at same time if you do not wish to leave it longer.
  9. We can leave art work for at least two months or longer.
  10. Make sure you have filled out the correct cards for your work. Jody wants all cards to be the same.  Please do not use your own cards.  If you no longer have the email that contained the right cards, please let me know. Hand the cards in with the work.  Do not tape them to the work.
  11. All work must have your name, phone#, name of the piece and the price fastened on the back of the work.   This is the only way Jody will know what card belongs to what picture when they move things around.
  12. Price artwork to allow for 25% commission.
  13. Artist will receive payment for sold art at the end of each month
  14. All artwork must be professionally framed for hanging
  15. The hanging committee will hang all art work.
  16. Negative comments, complaints, etc. should be addressed through a LAG Board Member. (For example, if you do not like where your art got hung, do not complain to Jody)
