Monthly Archives: February 2014

LAST CALL FOR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Please note that if you have not yet paid your 2014 LAG dues, you are in jeopardy of losing your membership benefits.  The membership fee deadline for ANAC, which is included with your yearly LAG dues is February 22th.  Those who have not submitted their dues by that date will not be able to participate in the March ANAC show.  Effective April 1st, any member who has not renewed LAG membership, will not receive the newsletter nor will they be able to participate in shows or events until membership for 2014 is paid.  So, don’t “lag” any longer about your LAG dues!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

There are many opportunities to become more involved with the Lincoln Artists’ Guild and contribute to our success.  Some of these opportunities would only happen once or twice a year. Please consider getting involved.

  1.  We still have several committees that need volunteers. Take a look at these & help out.
  2. Be on one of the 1st Friday Reception Groups and help create an interesting reception.
  3. Get your name on the “Manning the Gallery” list. One day a month is not too much to ask if you are showing your art at the gallery.

If everyone would do their part no one member would have to work more than one day a month.

The Gallery is a great opportunity for the Guild.  let’s not lose this OPPORTUNITY because no one wanted to help with a little of their time.

March ANAC Qualifying Show

Bring your art you wish to enter in the 2014 ANAC show to Against the Wall (6100 Havelock Ave) on or before March 1. Send pre-registration to Connie Bachus-Yoder at 1018 Benton 68521. Should you not get your entry pre-registered, Donna Justen and Joy Frame will be at Against the Wall from 10-11:30 AM, March 1 to take care of last minute registration.

Open house for this exhibit will be on Saturday March 8 from 2PM to 4PM.  Please invite your friends and come to see all the work we will be sending to McCook for the June 11 – 14 ANAC convention. Look for ANAC rules in your Feb. newsletter. Pre-registration form below

March 4th Program

Creative, artistic ability can be displayed in many different mediums, and the monthly LAG meeting on March 4th will be a good example of that.  The “Wood Carvers of Lincoln, Nebr.” will be demonstrating the Art of Wood Carving by Chuck Bills and Bruce Lind.  The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. at Capitol City Christian Church. Let’s give them a warm welcome and enjoy watching a wood artist at work.

Featured Artist

I’m Jerry Hall. I draw and use colored pencils to portray wildlife, including butterflies, birds, big cats, wolves, and bison. I will be showing some of my art pieces in Nebraska City at the Wildwood Art Center from April 25th through October 31st. Additional work will be on display from June 6th through July 17th as a featured artist.

The Wildwood Art Center/Gallery is in a refurbished, 2-story, historical barn near the historical home of the Morton Family. This barn is on the backside of the Arbor Lodge land at 420 Steinhart Park Rd in Nebraska City. Hope you can come and see not only my art, but also several other artists’ work.

I will also will be showing my art work at the UNL-East Campus gallery on the third floor of the Union, in April, along with two other artists.

LAG’s GRAND OPENING

Saturday, February 8th at OUT OF THE BOX was a huge success! We sold some paintings, and we had a good crowd of Art Enthusiasts who signed up to learn of future special promotions. OOTB also had lots of sales. The Board Members did a great job as hosts.

We’re planning to participate in the First Friday Art events from 5-8PM. So far, we don’t have volunteers for March 7th. It will be a wonderful opportunity for us. Four to Five people will be needed to cover two levels: two greeters, two food table stockers/watchers, etc.

We think it would be fun to have a featured artist each month whose paintings would be grouped together. Other suggestions are welcome. We have had several people sign up to be at the Gallery on certain days. If you have paintings displayed, you have an obligation to help work at the gallery one day per month. (Depending on schedules and volunteers, it could be every other month.)
