MESSAGE FROM 2015 ANAC PRESIDENT

ANAC by Pam Hynek

I am finding out that new ANAC members are not sure what to do regarding their local selection shows. Our club in Fremont had a meeting in January for anyone wanting to come, in an effort to educate new members and maybe explain some things to past members. The local clubs adhere to the state size, weight and container rules. There is no point in accepting a piece at the local level that won’t be accepted at the state level. I have been asked a few times about how to pack artwork. I can bring my work to the local selection show in a shopping bag if I want, but if my work is selected for state, I must provide a sturdy container to withstand being hauled with the rest of the pieces to conference. If the piece is 3-D it can be brought to the local level in a duffel bag, but it it’s selected for state, it must have a sturdy container suitable for traveling around the state for a year in the event it’s chosen for the traveling show. The 3-D pieces are scrutinized by the exhibit board before judging for their ability to withstand hauling. If it’s deemed unfit then the work is pulled from judging. We don’t want to see bubble wrap in a cardboard box for a pottery piece. The 2-D pieces will travel in crates provided by the exhibit board. None will accommodate any pieces larger than 40 inches. That is the reason for the size limits. I don’t know if this helps. The best place to learn all of this is at conference! Get involved, it’s fun!

Member news

Thank you to everyone for the thoughtful gifts and thanks I received at the Chinese New Year Dinner. It was completely unexpected and I was really surprised.   It has been a great experience being the President for the past two years. This Guild is made of wonderful people and I hope that it will continue for years to come.

DUES

Dues are due!!  Pay before the end of February or you will not be eligible to enter the local ANAC competition and you will not be included in the new membership book.  This years dues are $35 for individuals, and $55 for couples–a reduction from last year!

ANAC

February 26th is the date we will need to pick up the current ANAC Show paintings from Fremont.  President Jan Blank will be going with her van, and hopefully, there will be another one or two people willing to help.  We will bring them to Lincoln and deliver them to the Noyes Gallery.  Please notify Jan Blank if you can help.

Our local qualifying show for the 2015 ANAC Show in Columbus will be in March.  Be sure to start working on something to enter.  We will have someone at the February 3rd meeting at Capital Christian Church to critique your work-in-progress.

This year the fee for entering the local ANAC show will be $5.00.  Then, if your painting is chosen for the show in Columbus, you will need to pay $7.00 more.  ($5.00 goes to ANAC, and $2.00 goes to the members who take the paintings and bring them back.)  This will eliminate having to reimburse members whose paintings weren’t chosen.

KUDOS:

To the committee for the New Year’s party–Rita Holland, Wanda Medina, and Reida Wrenholt.  A job well done!!  And to Julie Lemons for designing and making the great FEATURED ARTIST signs for our Fourth Friday receptions.  Thanks to all of you for your special efforts!

CHINESE NEW YEAR’S PARTY

There were 28 members in attendance at the party at the Imperial Palace on Saturday, January 17th.  After a very short business meeting to acknowledge the new officers: Jan Blank, President; Rita Holland, Secretary; and Wanda Medina, Treasurer; names were drawn for door prizes.  Three lucky people got to pick from the elaborate center pieces.  The gift exchange was lots of fun and the Chinese meal was delicious.  Everyone enjoyed getting to know their artist friends just a little better.
