Nominations

We are getting ready for the new year and we are seeking new positions within our organization.  Would you please consider helping out your club?

We are seeking a 2nd Vice President – his/her job would be to attend the 6:00 business meeting (prior to regular meeting).  Be a voting member, and be available to preside over the monthly meeting if the President or 1st Vice President is not available.

We are seeking a secretary – his/her job would be to attend the 6:00 business meeting (prior to regular meeting).  Be a voting member, take notes, and type up notes within the week, submit to Joy Frame who will send out minutes, and also send out cards, as needed for sympathy, etc.

We are seeking someone to chair the show committee – his/her/their job would be to coordinate the Spring/Fall/Veterans shows which includes setting up show, getting a judge.  You/your committee can add more monthly/fun shows if so desired.  Coordinator for the ANAC could be included within this but not required.

Other positions are available but we need the 2nd Vice President and Secretary to satisfy our non-profit criteria with the state.

Let Kirk know soon if you can help out!  kuenzitoons@gmail.com

Membership

The new year is approaching and your dues to LAG are due by the end of January (if you want to be a member of the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs).  We will be accepting money the night of our Holiday Party on Saturday January 15, but if you are not planning to attend, please send your dues to Gretchen at the address below in this newsletter.  Join prior to December 31 and be in the drawing for a $25 gift card to an art store of your choice.  Last year was tough; we couldn’t meet, couldn’t offer much to members, so that is why we carried the memberships over.  This year we are having great programs, have a great meeting space, we officially have a gallery and we are having workshops, with more to come.  We are looking forward to a great 2022.

Signage Ideas

Need some fresh ideas for our First Friday sign to draw people into the gallery on our open house nights.  LAG members are encouraged to create one or two posters that will slip into our metal First Friday frame.  We will rotate signs out so all work is displayed at one time or another.  The boards will be laminated to dispel the weather, so keep your designs flat.  They need to be 1. vertical,  2.  22″ x 28″,  3. catchy phrase,  4. must say “LAG First Friday and 6 to 8, 4. it must be on poster board, (sturdy but thin enough to slide into the metal frame).  You can bring your piece/pieces to any LAG meeting.

Motion Lights

Does anyone have any experience with battery motion lights?  We are looking into clipping some sort of motion lights to lighten the east and west center walls of the gallery.  We don’t want to hook into electricity or drill holes into anything.  Any ideas?

Holiday Party

We are always up to having great social gatherings, and the LAG is no exception.  We will again hold our New Years Holiday Party (originally Chinese New Year).  The date for this years party is Saturday evening, January 15th.  The event will be held at the LAG Gallery in the Tai Chi room.  We will have it catered, and it will be BYOB.  There will be games if you are so inclined, and of course this will be the evening when we renew memberships for the next year. There will be NO gift exchange this year. If anyone would like to participate in further planning (games, theme, etc.) contact Kirk.  More information as it becomes finalized.  Members, spouses or significant others, mark your calendars now.

(there will be no January monthly program)

Fall Show 2021

Congratulations to all the winners from the Fall Show.  We had the largest show yet, with 42 entries. Thank you to Carmen Stineman, Debbie Martin and Will Rennick for their work in setting up the show, and to Ted Pardy who judged the show and provided a written critique for every piece.  Congratulations to Pam Apley for earning Best of Show with her fabric mosaic entitled “Landscape Prism”

Take down day is Tuesday October 26th from 12 – 1. If you cannot make it at that time, please get someone to pick up for you, as we cannot leave anything at the LUX, because the next months display group want to get in prior to the November First Friday. Carmen will be at the LUX on Saturday at 4 if anyone needs to pick up work on the weekend.

(if you want to bring one or two of your show pieces to hang in the gallery, the gallery change day is also Tuesday October 26th, just walk it across the street, pay your month fee of $40 for a 4′ x 4′ square, OR bring one or two for $10 each to hang for a month If you wish to do that you will need to sign up to host the gallery during one or more three hour shifts )

This will be a good time to showcase your work, as we will be having the Veterans Day Show for visitors to come see, and the Christmas Boutique will also be in place for visitors.

Christmas Boutique

The LAG will again be holding their Christmas Boutique at the LAG gallery during the months of November and December.  Small items may be brought in anytime beginning November 1 – 10.  There is no charge for these items, but you must list them in the inventory book, so we can mark sales and you can get paid.  Requirements:

  • no cheesy garage sale stuff, kit quality or things the average consumer could make
  • quality affordable art items
  • limit the number if you have a lot / bring a few of same thing and replenish as sales are made
  • if you participate in the boutique, you must work a minimum, 3 hour shift at the gallery
  • for all LAG members

(If interested in more expensive items, we could create a silent auction table, featuring larger work, gift cards, coupons, etc.)
