LAG November Monthly Meeting

The LAG November meeting will be held on Tuesday November 7th at 7:00 at Capital City Christian Church.  The program will be presented by Mitch Egeberg about the benefits of having a blog for  art and what one needs to do to start and maintain a blog site.  He will demonstrate and give out handouts.  Members may bring a notebook or Ipad to follow along also.

Mitch is one of our newer members and has an art degree from South Dakota State University and a Masters in Art Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  He taught in North Platte and Seward before retiring.

If time allows we will also have a discussion about social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest led by another of our newer members, Craig Imig.

Should be very informative, so bring any questions you might have.

Snacks will be courtesy of Julie Ralston and Lisa Cassel.

New and old members of the Guild, please enter this show. Past shows have been less than stellar in attendance.  With 60 members we could have as many as 120 pieces.  WOW! If you have questions call me: 402-435-0172  Reminder: each member can have two entries.

Our Judge for the Fall Show will be Bruce Forbes, a member of the Art Department at Union College. He works a lot with Photography, so let’s have some Photo’s. We haven’t had any for quite some time.

***President’s Potpourri***

The end is near of my first tenure as being President of the Lincoln Artists’ Guild and I am finally getting the hang of everything that is going on.  Now I see why elected offices are two year stints…..it takes us a year to “get the hang of it”.  One more meeting to go for this year and

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL IS DUE

You may renew three different ways…..

  1. mail your money to Ethel Mount (8110 Prescott Avenue, Lincoln, NE  68506)
  2. bring your money to the November meeting
  3. bring your money to the January New Year Party

$35 per person or $55 per couple, and $25 Gallery Fee

It is important to get your dues in for EARLY two reasons……..

  1. $7 of your membership entitles you to belong to ANAC (deadline Febr. 15)
  2. new membership books will be printed so we need all names included

I think we had 60 people this year who were paid members……..can we get 70 or more for next year?

LAG Sales

ART SALES FROM LAG SHOWS
As many new people have joined LAG, we thought we should review the procedural rules our Guild has for the sale of artwork from any LAG hosted art showing.
Every artwork sale from a venue hosted by the Lincoln Artists’ Guild is required to go through the show’s designated contact person, exhibiting committee chair/members, or the LAG Treasurer.  This is because our Guild receives a 20% commission on every sold piece of art.  This 20% commission applies to all the LAG’s Juried Shows, the ANAC show and any big or small LAG organized outside show in stores, cafes, banks, community centers, galleries, etc.  The only exception is at Out of the Box.  The commission is 30%.  LAG gets 15% and Out of the Box gets 15%.
All checks for the sold art should be made out to “LAG” and be sent directly to the Treasurer.  Once the Treasurer has the money for a sale, the Guild will then send a check for 80% of the sale directly to the artist.  Out of the Box will collect all payments for sales from our shows.
One benefit of buying art at LAG showings is that there is no sales tax on sales when paid for through LAG.  LAG is a federally registered non-profit educational organization and is not required to charge sales tax on any art sold through its auspices.    We ask that participating members in LAG showings keep in mind the 20% or 30% commission clause and price their pieces accordingly.

Membership News

I am pleased to welcome our newest member, Dee Kelch.  Dee’s contact information is dkelch40@hotmail.com; 402-875-8208; 4018 N 18th St., Lincoln NE 68508.  Her art includes works in watercolor, pencil, mixed media and pen and ink. Please remember to add her to your Membership Book.  You can also see some of her artwork hanging at our Out of the Box Gallery!

On a sad note, we were recently notified of the death of one of our members, Geanine Bordogna. She passed away on July 4, 2017. Geanine was a pillar of the Lincoln community, active in many business and community endeavors. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and creating and collecting art. Our deepest condolences go to all her family and many friends.
