Poem by Brenda Wilcher

The Infinite

I reached into the Infinite;
You’d think there would be nothing there,
But I brought with me everything I needed to get rid of
I came back very free and refreshed.
The Infinite is my vacation;
it is my holiday, my renewal.
The Infinite is a boundless energy mass,
lighter than air,
with only our eyes to see it;
without it needing to see us.
It is there for our convenience;
it does not need for us to convenience it.
Not that it will go away if we don’t;
It never has and never will.
Only an exchange is needed to fulfill this push of life;
only experience infinitely, in a manner so close to infancy,
and it and we shall survive forever.

Out of the Box

Out of the Box
The first Friday in July is Independence Day, so the Friday Reception will be held July 11th. We will be featuring Joel Sartore.   We will also be celebrating Christmas in July. All Members who have some bin art (unframed art) are welcome to bring their art as well as any bins they have down to Out of the Box a couple of days before and be part of the Christmas party.

HALLOWEEN WILL BE HERE SOON!!!
The Halloween store moves back into Out of the Box August 15th, so that means we have to have all our art work out of the upper level by August 12.   To fill the lower lever with art for August, we are going to start with five pieces of 2D art work per member. You may leave five pieces that you currently have at Out of the Box or bring new art work. Everything else will have to be taken home.

Please make a new inventory sheet of the work you will have at Out of the Box by Aug.12th..

Please plan your first part of August so that you will be able to exchange your work or add five pieces if you are not currently showing by August 12th.

Programs

The weather caused LAG’s June meeting and picnic at Holmes Lake to be canceled. However, it was better for all members to be safe at home and a picnic can always be re-scheduled at another time.

Angela Carroll, president of the Lincoln Camera Club, is going to share her photography experience with LAG members at the monthly meeting July 1st at7:00 p.m. at Capitol City Christian Church.  She is a registered nurse and Nurse Counselor for an Insurance Co.  She has two grown children and is a music director, but finds time to pursue her photography hobby of which is mostly landscape photography.  She is presently showing her photos at the Seward Red Path Gallery.  Bring your cameras and questions for her input.  She will also bring some of her photos that members are welcome to use as a reference for painting.

The August meeting will feature a pastel demonstration by Julie Lemons, one of the club’s long-time members.

Judy Martindale Art Exhibit

You are invited to an art opening reception at McClelland Gallery on the Union College campus in the Ortner Center on July 17 from 6 to 8 pm. There will be art and vegan snacks to enjoy. Hope to see you there. The title of the exhibit is “Potpourri” and runs from July 16 through August 15. Hours are 7:30 to 5:30, Sunday through Friday, closed Saturday.

Jim McClelland Acrylics Workshop

This workshop will explore two major elements of art: Composition and Color. Jim McClelland will demonstrate and lecture on how to make your paintings more exciting and pleasing to the eye using acrylic paints. He will demonstrate the use of color in both a landscape and floral painting. In the afternoon, there will individual assistance and critiques to guide each artist to new and fresh approaches.

Gallery Nine July Invitational, Music Video, Et Cetera

I have been invited back to the Gallery Nine July Invitational for the second consecutive year. I am ecstatic about it and cannot wait. This year is especially exciting considering the past alumni will be participating as well, so it will be a huge blowout party for G-9. Lots of food, music, new friends and old ones. My friend, Gabrielle Vlad, invited me both years to participate as her guest. She is a wonderful bead artist and I am proud to call her my friend. My work includes collage and photography. This will be the first time that I have had three exhibits simultaneously: Gallery Nine, Out of The Box, and Seward Civic Center. The last year has been phenomenal as I have had the Coffee Shop Road Show – touring my exhibit all over Lincoln’s coffee shop scene. And, it all started with being invited by Gabi to show at Gallery Nine.

I am also shooting a music video in July of lyrics that I wrote three decades ago. The subject is workplace injustice and I believe that it will be a wonderful statement when completed.

Last week I obtained permission from the director of the Lachaise Foundation in New York to use a photo image that I took of Floating Figure by Gaston Lachaise (see below). His sculpture is in the Sheldon Sculpture Garden. I plan to create greeting cards to market and distribute worldwide. I am taking a trip to Europe this fall to Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest and plan to market them while I am there. It is so exciting to have my photography enthusiastically accepted by the foundation that handles the work of Lachaise.
