Show Entries

Thank you for your patience as we transition to Against the Wall. The Show Committee and the Gallery Committee are both excited about the move to this new location. You can help us smooth out this “rough patch” as we all make adjustments, by getting your show entries to me earlier. Please try to mail them 10-12 days before the show hanging date. This gives us time to complete the paperwork before the show date. Ethel Mount, 8110 Prescott Ave., Lincoln, Ne. 68506  You can also email me your information and bring your money the day of hanging.  eamount4038@gmail.com    Ethel Mount

Gallery Show

Ted Pardy will be having a show entitled “Sense of Place” opening at the Red Path Gallery in Seward.  Reception will be 2 – 4 on Sunday April 8th.  Location of the gallery is 514 Seward St, Seward Nebraska

April Meeting

Our April monthly meeting will be April 3rd at 7:00 at Capital City Christian Church.  Anna Alchde of Urban Legends will be demonstrating the use of Alcohol Inks.  This process was demonstrated at the last ANAC Convention in York, and the class appeared to be very popular.   Remember to bring any new things that you want to talk about for our monthly “show and tell”.

Seward 4th of July Show

Next show date for the Guild is June 1st.  We have been invited again to participate in the Seward 4th of July celebration.  Our work will be displayed for the month of July and August in Seward Nebraska.  You may deliver your work, or we will get a group to go and hang all the pieces.  Lunch anyone?  The theme for this year’s celebration is….. “Family, Fun, Freedom and Fireworks on the Fourth of July!”  We will use the same rules as we do in our gallery;  wire hangers, original, etc.  More specific information will follow in the months ahead, but this gives you time to plan and get started.   Carmen Stineman

How to Price Art

Using your emotions when pricing your art is a recipe for disaster.  The art market dictates the worth of art, not you.  You may have a strong connection to your work, but that connection should not determine what you are charging.

Don’t compare your art with other artists.  They may have been selling for five or ten years and have developed a following.  Your work may even be better than theirs, however people may not know you.  You have to develop a connection to people with your art, and that takes time and a lot of hard work.

First time artists…..1.  Decide on an  hourly rate you want to be paid.  (maybe $20 per hour) 2.  Know the cost of materials.  3.  Know the cost of expenses to sell the art.  4.  Multiply your hourly rate by the amount of time it took to create the piece.  5.  Add the cost of materials and other expenses.  The sum will be your price.

Pricing Artwork Formula…..(square inches x your price) + Cost of materials + *Marketing Expenses.   *if selling online, how much for the online business, if selling at a craft show, add in the expenses associated with the show (booth, business cards, etc.)  Your cost might be $4.00 per square inch.

I found this article fascinating, but it was too long for this publication.  If you are interested in reading all of it, I found it on Pintrest.  Article was called How to Price Art – Ultimate Art Pricing Guide by Dave Nevue. March 21, 2017       Carmen Stineman
