April 5th, LAG Program

LAG Presenter for APRIL 5th:
Carmen Stineman–Psyanky egg painting

Every first Tuesday of each month, JOIN US from 7 to 9 PM
at Capital City Christian Church, 7800 Holdrege St, Lincoln, NE

The art of the Ukraine and Poland called Psyanky is what Carmen will be
demonstrating at our April meeting. The process involves applying
melted wax to an egg creating a resist similar to batik, which when
repeatedly dyed, creates multiple colors and marks on “raw” eggs. She will
provided the eggs, dyes and waxes, but it would be helpful if everyone
could bring a couple of old towels (they may get ruined so nothing
good) and some sort of candle (tapered, fat, etc. as long as you have a
stand or holder to keep it upright.) Carmen will have a Powerpoint
presentation to show, and handouts.

CARMEN STINEMAN BIO
Born and raised on a farm in Cozad, Nebraska. I graduated from the
University of Nebraska in 1972 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education
degree and began my teaching career in Deshler, Nebraska where I met
my husband who was also a teacher.
My 1st dabbling in drawing came about when I copied pictures from
my horse magazines as I was nuts about horses, and the Archie and
Veronica comic books. While in elementary school I did my 1st
“landscape” painting while taking a class with a local artist in our
neighborhood. (Yes I still have that painting) While teaching art and
regular elementary classes I had the opportunity to try a variety of
media. Biggest complaint was that I didn’t have, or take the time, to
pursue my own art, while teaching so many and raising three children of
my own.

As we moved around during our teaching careers, I was fortunate to
belong to the Cheyenne County Art Guild, and was a past President of
the York Artist Guild. Now that I have retired from teaching I am
looking forward to trying out new things, with oil pain6ng becoming my
1st endeavor.
