LAG October Monthly Meeting

The meeting on Tuesday October 3 will be our fall evaluation lesson.  Members may bring in one or two works to be critiqued by Amy Tomasevicz of Columbus.  Amy is a Nebraska artist who works in many mediums from pencil to pastels, including watercolor and collage.  She is an art teacher and an art student, teaching, as well as learning more about art each day.  Her work is displayed in homes across the US, plus some in Europe and the Caribbean area as well.  Her inspiration is the life around her, including nature, people and animals. Amy is currently the president of the Columbus Area Artists and is active in the ANAC.

The meeting will run from 7 till 8:45.  Snacks will be provided by Lorena and Carmen.  Hope everyone is getting ready for the fall show, and here is your chance to “tweek” your work after listening to suggestions throughout the evening.  If you don’t have any work ready now, please still come as all discussions lead to more knowledge, and more knowledge leads to better art.

LAG Chinese New Year Christmas Party

We are getting closer to the end of the year and plans need to be made!  The LAG Chinese New Year party will be held on Saturday January 20th starting at 7:00 p.m.  Anyone interested in chairing this event or being on the planning committee, please let me know.  It is the Year of the Dog and we will be celebrating with lots of woof/woofs, and bark/barks.  Make plans for January to attend; also that is when we would like all the renewals for 2018 to be in.  Carmen Stineman

**President’s Potpourri**

Now that summer is over, let’s get down to details……..some of you may have heard that we were looking for a site that might be suited for our own gallery and studio space.  We were in touch with Steen and Jody about a wonderful building that they own that would work as both.  Boy were our heads spinning as we looked over the space.   “What could we do” “this would be so cool to do this” and “can’t you just see this”.  Then we got down to brass tacks so to speak……several of us sat down for coffee and hashed over everything, even writing down a pros and cons column, and in reality the lists were pretty even across the board, and then reality hit us…….we, as a non profit, do not, or will not, every have enough money to rent a facility for even a couple of months.  Have you seen the cost of rental property?  $8 – $12 a SQUARE FOOT.  So with our dreams shattered, we realized that we need a Fairy Godmother, one who would like to donate a place for us.  (anyone know of such a person?)  We love where we are at Out of the Box, but with them renting space also, that is not always going to be an option.  And now that I hear about the city voting to allow a large hotel to go up in the space formerly in the Skate Zone, will Armstrong Furniture sell that building to a hotel chain?  What will the future hold?  Who knows, but we will forever be an organization that sticks together.  Carmen Stineman
