  • Artist tape/painters blue tape
  • Masking fluid/rubber cement
  • Masking brush, one you do not care if it gets ruined
  • 2 Small buckets or bowls
  • Newspaper
  • Wear older clothes
  • Hard board or heavy cardboard to attach watercolor paper
  • Palette
  • Watercolor paint
  • Flat 2″-4″ paint brushes and fan-shaped watercolor brushes
  • Paper towels
  • Pencil and Hard or kneaded eraser

between the treessparklesNOTE:  We will start inside, but will be going outside if the weather permits. We will be splashing paint. Because we have less than two hours to complete a painting, you may want to prepare ahead. If so, please do the following:
Attach watercolor paper/board to a hard art board or heavy cardboard with painters blue tape. Mask chosen areas of your watercolor board or paper to be protected from splattered paint. Use artist/painter’s tape to mask geometric or other shapes such as trees/flowers/animals and/or create straight edges. Apply masking fluid/rubber cement with a stiff masking brush to cover other details and areas of the surface which are to remain clean from the splatter. Allow masking fluid to dry.  If the weather takes us inside, please bring a medium sized cardboard box that will accommodate the size of watercolor paper/tablet you bring.

Artist Bio & Artist Statement: Julie Lemons
Julie’s art experience began with the help of her mother as she taught her how to color within the lines when she was two and helped her paint her first oil painting when she was three.

Encouraging others in art is important to Julie. Being involved in local galleries, the Lincoln Artists’ Guild (past president), the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (past president), and designing graphics for over 30 years help to keep her imagination alive. She currently work as a graphic designer for Lincoln Public Schools (18+ years). Her work has been shown in the Nebraska Governor’s Resident and sold across the U.S.A./Europe/Argentina.

Julie is a new author of an instructional art book, “Naturally Wild: How to Paint Animals Using Pastels.” She recently illustrated two other books, “Eliza the Pig” by Author Alexandra McClanahan (NE) and “On Target: Adventurous Annie Oakley” by Charlotte Endorf (NE). She is working on illustrations for three more books.

2016 LAG Seward Show Information

Are You Ready??
The guild’s 2016 LAG Seward Show theme is “Expressions of Wild Blue Yonder” with Nebraska skies and liberty in mind. Maybe, look up the song “Wild Blue Yonder” for inspiration! The theme “Into the Wild Blue Yonder”, a salute to the National Guard Air Guard, is the Seward 4th of July theme for 2016, so, we (LAG) will join in with part of the theme, creating our own interpretations. It is a great way to get your work out into another community.

Also, 2-D and 3-D pieces are welcome. Please follow gallery hanging guidelines such as 2-D work needs to be wire hung, no saw tooth brackets. The edges of wrapped canvas need to be painted. Please see the LAG gallery guidelines.

Show Set-Up Information:

Thurs. June 2nd, 5 p.m. We will meet on North 27th in the parking lot behind Culver’s. It is $2 per piece of art if you are dropping off art for the show and cannot help drive or set up. Those that can come and help and/or drive do not have to pay. We will leave at 5:15 for Seward. If you need to drop your art off prior to Thurs. June 2nd, please contact Julie Lemons to make other arrangements, 402-570-9476 or email jewelslemons@yahoo.com

Show Take-down and Pick-up Information:

Thurs. July 7th, 5 p.m. We will meet on North 27th in the parking lot behind Culver’s for those that will go and help take the show down. We need phone numbers of those who are picking up their artwork when we return. The time can vary a little depending on how long it takes to take it down and come back to Lincoln. Otherwise, the art can be picked up Friday July 8th, at 5905 O Street, LPSDO south parking lot…Julie Lemons will be there at 4:10 until 4:30 p.m.

Not only have there been sales in the past, but there is also a People’s Choice Award given each year. The top winner is invited by the Seward Arts Council to do a solo show in the following year. Myrna Baade was our winner for 2015 and will be doing a solo show. Hundreds of people come through the Seward Civic Center during June and July. This will be the guild’s 9th year of celebrating our creativity with the community of Seward. Encourage an artist friend to collaborate with you in your piece for the show, too!

SO MUCH FUN !!

We had a great crowd for April’s Fourth Friday with awesome music by Becky Grote, Ashley Peterson, Mike & Karen Murphy, all very talented members of Coro di Flauti.  The table setting was lovely with fresh flowers, springtime accents, and many delicious appetizers. The Featured Artwork was from the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC) traveling show. The show represented the top 25 award winners from the 2015 state competition and travels throughout Nebraska from June 2015 to June 2016. This was an outstanding exhibit.  We were delighted we could host the one month stop in the Lincoln area this year. Many thanks to Out of the Box for our beautiful gallery space. Fourth Friday was a fun night, amazing artwork, and enjoyable time visiting with guests and artists. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a fun evening. Now, its time to mark your calendar for the next fourth Friday May27th !!
