“The Wall” Gallery News

I think Lincoln Artist Guild is very lucky to have such a great place to show our art. We appreciate John at Against the Wall Gallery and Frame Shop for giving us a wall in his gallery to show our art. I am always unsure what we should call the space where we are hanging our art. I think the proper thing would be to say “Against the Wall Gallery featuring art by Lincoln Artist Guild”. But then I also want to call it the LAG gallery. So maybe for now I will just call it The Wall. The point that I want to make is we are lucky to have a space and I hope that we can get more LAG people out to attend and support this space both on First Friday and also during gallery hours. I am working on a gallery hanging system to enhance the look of the gallery and simplify the hanging of the art. Will Rennick

2018 Fall Show

The Fall Show is “in the books” so to speak, and congratulations go out to all the winners and  all who participated.  The show is growing and that is gratifying.  This year’s show had a wide variety of pieces to be judged.  Regarding the  First Friday evening, many said: “I wouldn’t want to be the judge this year because there is such as variety”.  Our judge  Janna Harsch  did a wonderful job spendidng close to 3 1/2 hours analyzing the submissions and writing helpful critiques.  Best of Show went to Reida Wrenholt with her sculpture entitiled “Tree Spirit”.   The James Ray Award went to Lisa Cassel for her colored pencil rendition entitled “Fall Frivolity”.  Awards of Merit went to Gretchen Olberding for “Symphony of Light and Shadows”, Carmen Stineman for “Bullitt”, and Jan Blank for “September Song”.  Honorable Mentions to Jane Chesnut for “Natures’ Wonder”, Pam Apley for “New Day” and Taylor Wilson for “Wind Wing Gobmeca”  If you haven’t been to the gallery to see the show, please stop by.  It is beautiful, and of course, there is one more award to be given.  The People’s Choice.  Vote for who you liked the most.  The votes will be tallied on the day the show comes down, Thursday, November 29th from 10a.m. – 12noon – the day for everyone to pick up their entries and the gallery change date.

Discussions have been ongoing about how much money we realize, and how much we spend for our shows.  It appears that we are continually in the red.  Next year there may be some changes, including, increasing the entry fee, not awarding as many ribbons, or not giving cash awards for placing.  Presently these possibilities are in the discussion phase.  The goal is to meet show expenses, not make a profit.  Please send me your opinions or ideas.      Carmen Stineman

Extra – Extra – Extra

Read all about it.  We are seeking someone within the guild to create an advertising platform for the Guild:  someone who will create ads from scratch, contact media sources eg. tv, radio, newspaper, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.  It is essential that we get our name out to the public and inform them of LAG activities.  We have several people who have volunteered to help in various ways, but we need a leader.  Here is a chance to use and expand your technical skills in a good cause.  If you are interested, or want more information, let me know.    Carmen Stineman

$$$$$$$$$$$$

Interested in a free lunch?  Good with numbers:  We are looking for someone to review the treasurers reports.  We like to do this at the end of each year in preparation for new year.  Let Ethel Mount or me know.  We will buy you lunch and let you look over the current records.  Carmen Stineman

+++President’s Potpouri+++

I just returned from Bartlesville, Oklahoma on a three day getaway, and viewed the 48th National Exhibition and Sale of the Women Artists of the West Tallgrass Rendezvous.  Women Artists of the West is a non-profit organization of over 300 juried members across the United States, Australia and Canada with the objectives of uniting women artists, elevating awareness of art created by women and encouraging technical excellence.  That was the technical version of……..WOW, the talent viewed in both two and three dimensional work was extraordinary.  There were 221 works by 136 artists featuring wildlife, nautical, still-life, equine, cityscape, landscape, sculpture, plein air and figurative art.  If you are interested in viewing their website, go to www.waow.org.   I loved the show, and of course after being exposed, I could hardly wait to get back to the easel.   Carmen Stineman
