Gallery Committee Report

Gallery Committee Report

Our move to Against the Wall has been challenging at times, but fun.  We are so grateful for John and Steve O’Hare for being so helpful. The walls are really looking great and we are ready to start advertising.  Posters are being handed out to businesses and posted around town. The help from Beverly Jimenz has been wonderful as she is handling the day to day gallery and framing business. If you have not been at Against the Wall yet, please stop in anytime or come to the 1st Friday receptions.

We have added a few new members to the Gallery committee but we can still use a few more.  If you would like to become part of the fun by helping the committee to make this a great gallery, please let us know.  If you have any questions about this please give us a call.  Thank you to Joyce Jacobs, Craig Imig, Janette Van Butsel and Donna Justsen, the newest members to the Gallery Committee for your help in getting the gallery up and running.

The most helpful thing that needs to be done now, is for everyone to start sending emails or cards out to your family and friends.  We do have postcards that can be mailed or handed out. They are located at the gallery.   Write your own message or copy from our Facebook site.

3D show

We just held our second annual 3D Show, and while there were still a small  number of entries, interest in the show is growing.   We had a variety of work which everyone enjoyed.  The Judge ROBERT ESQUIVEL was at the reception and visited with the members. Reida Wrenholt received the Best of Show, Taylor Wilson received the Merit award and Will Rennick received the Hororary Award.  Please stop by the gallery and vote for your favorite entry to the show.  Most votes earns a Peoples Choice Award.  Donna Pozehl

KUDOS:

Kudos:  Thank you to everyone who helped in our move to Against the Wall.  You make a significant difference with your help and support to make the Lincoln Artists’ Guild’s Gallery first rate!

July Meeting

Our guests for the July LAG meeting will be Cynthia Levis and Rhonda Baidwin.  They will be talking about Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and discuss different techniques used in making of their pieces of art. (there are around 52 6×9 pieces that will be on display) They will be bringing some of our own Art pieces showing “How you can make artwork using cloth without having to piece fabric together.”

Cynthia is fortunate to have on both sides of her family, people who were very talented with their hands and had great imaginations. An example of this; her father took random parts and made a working tractor, which is still working to this day. Cynthia began at a young age learning embroidery work from her paternal aunt and maternal grandmother making little embroidered potholders.  She progressed to home economics and made the dreaded “skirt” and continued on with handwork, cross-stitching for a number of years. In her early twenties she started making traditional quilts. In her early forties she began making Art Quilts. She enjoys every aspect of the process from the idea, to displaying the finished work.  She has been an Artist Member at Noyes Gallery in Lincoln. She is a member of fiber art groups: Fiber Works, Midwest Fiber Art Alliance and SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associate) and is co-representative for Studio Art Quilt Associates.

Rhonda Baldwin is a textile artist from Grand Island, NE. Vibrant color and surface design techniques are the focus of her work. She began working as a seamstress in her youth and after earning a B.S. in Textiles, Clothing and Design from University of Nebraska, began exploring and breaking the rules of surface design. After indulging her creative muse as a dance teacher for 25 years, she has returned to her studio and is happily exploring mark making, textile manipulation and surface design.

June 1st Friday

Bonus night!  Our judge for the 3D show, Bob Esquivil shared many art tips for the LAG members and guests.  The large variety of art that was hung at Against the Wall Gallery showed the versatility of our LAG members.  Every guest was greeted immediately by Craig Imig who handed out flyers telling about our organization. Taylor Wilson baked three kinds of cookies for the refreshment table; other snacks were provided by Janet Fraley.  Be sure to invite your friends and family to the next First Friday Reception on July 6th.  Please contact Joyce Jacobs if you’d be interested in hosting the reception table with a few snacks, wine, punch or water and a welcoming smile and warm greeting to all our guests.    Joyce Jacobs
