Friends of the LUX

Dear LUX Friend,

Just a few weeks ago, the LUX Center for the Arts was preparing to teach a new group of students in our outreach program and we were taking in dozens of registrations for our upcoming summer camps.

Then suddenly, the Covid-19 health crisis wiped out most of those plans. Outreach classes at community learning centers were cancelled in early March and all LUX classes were cancelled soon after. While we’re cautiously optimistic about holding summer camps, there is still much that is unknown.

Faced with the postponement of our largest fundraiser of the year, the LUX Art Auction, and uncertainty about our summer camps, the LUX may lose up to one-fifth of its annual income. At this time, LUX staff are on a limited schedule at reduced pay.

Even so, we haven’t been idle. We’re creating online profiles of our artists-in-residence and how-to art and craft videos for both adults and children. In addition, we’re giving out more than 400 art supply kits with sketchbooks, watercolors, and colored pencils to families across Lincoln in April.

We want to give a big thanks to the foundations and funders that are giving us leeway on how we use their funds during this time: Cooper Foundation, Sherwood Foundation, United Way and the Nebraska Arts Council.

If you’d like to help the LUX get through this time of uncertainty, please consider becoming a member or renewing your membership now by going to luxcenter.org/shop/become-lux-member.

You can also make a gift to support the LUX here luxcenter.org/support/individual-giving.

As always, we are extraordinarily grateful for your continued support and generosity.
