Monthly Archives: February 2024

March Monthly Program

Next monthly program will be Tuesday March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Road. (enter at door 4 – NW side) We will be meeting in room 413 and the program is our Critique Night. Bring one or two pieces that you are working on and the members will give suggestions and “high fives”. We will also have a still life set up for you to sketch or photograph. In September, when we have our second critique night, members can bring back their finished still life projects.

Spring Show

The Spring Show will be held in April this year, at the LUX. Drop off of work will be Wednesday April 3rd from 10:00 till 12:00. Our judge will be Robert Esquivil. You may enter a maximum of three pieces, none of which have been shown in a previous LAG show. Pieces must be current (within the last two years). 48″ maximum dimension of two dimensional work and 75 lb sculpture limit. Jewelry must be in a secure case/frame. There is a $10 fee for each piece. This show will also be our ANAC selection show. Ribbons and monetary prizes awarded. Questions forwarded to Carmen Stineman, Show Chairman.

Business Meeting

Officers of the Lincoln Artists’ Guild met Tuesday morning, February 27th. Present were President, Carmen Stineman, Vice President Kirk Kuenzi, 2nd Vice President, Mark Mesloh and Treasurer Jan Garvin.

$31,000 in our treasurery, both in checking and Edward Jones Account.

Presented and passed unanimously that honorary members will be dropped from the memberhip roles as a $12 fee per member must be paid out to ANAC, and it was felt that as these members do not pay a membership fee, that the $12 fee was an additional expense we did not want to continue.

Discussion about a Web Page vs Facebook page. The Web Page has many obsolete or erroneous entries, and possible we can have both a public and members only accessable site on Facebook. Jan will look into that for us.

Last year the Guild hosted members in a three site booth at the Holy Trinity Arts Festival in order to encourage novice and veteran fair goers to show their art and promote the Lincoln Artists’ Guild. Now that members have had the experence the Guild will not host a booth, but will instead take applications from members who would like to have their own booth, but request financial help from the Guild, with the stipulation the artist promote the LAG organization. Requests can be made in writing to Carmen Stineman, President of the Lincoln Artists’ Guild, 3300 SW 80th Circle, Lincoln NE 68532. Deadline for this application is Saturday April 6.

We will again be participating in the Seward Fourth of July Art show held all summer in Seward. Due to construction at the Langworthy Center, this summer’s show will be held at the Red Path Gallery on the square in Seward. Unlike in previous years which didn’t cost anything, this year we will charge $10 per entry, and if any sales are made, a commission will be required to help cover the $250 a month rental that the Seward Arts Council is absorbing this year. Also, due to the size of the space provided we will have to limit the size and number of pieces. Advantages to this space rather than previous years is that is the gallery right on the square where all festivities are and members may sell their work, which we could not do in the past.

Items that were discussed and tabled for future were: Do we need another set of metal screens for hanging? Requirements for being a 501 (c). Possibly changing banks due to difficulty with online depositing. If we wish to participate in the fine arts part of the State Fair, we need a point person to facilitate.

Kuddos and Applause

Please let any of the officers know about news worthy events that LAG members are involved in. Attending a workshop/show, visiting a gallery, setting up a show, awards, meeting of artist groups, etc. Send a picture along with info and we will create an eye catching FB page. We are trying to boost our FB presence with all sorts of things LAG related. Letting everyone know what is going on in our art world, and maybe interest someone new to see what we are about and possible join.
