Let the Art Wave

Are your flags waving, yet? LAG members are encouraged to create/paint/sculpt/mold/carve, ect…a piece of artwork that includes or has resemblance of a US flag for the 2015 LAG Seward Art show in June and July. The art council of Seward provides an awesome trophy and a solo show for the “People’s Choice Award.” Hundreds of people come through the Seward Civic Center and see the art…especially during the 4th of July. Seward is recognized as “America’s Small Town 4th of July City.  The Seward July 4 theme is “Everyone Has A Story-Honoring the Veterans of WWII-‘The Greatest Generation’!” The guild’s theme is “Let the Art Wave.”

This show is free (except there is a $2 charge per entry to cover gas for the drivers if you cannot transport your own art).   The rules for framing/hanging the are same as the ANAC rules except you may enter older pieces, but not ancient ones.  Dates of hanging and taking down will be confirmed in the May newsletter (looking at set up Thurs., May 4th  5:30 p.m. and take down Thurs. June 30th 5:30 p.m. in at the Seward Civic Center/Gallery). Contact Julie Lemons if you have any questions, jewelslemons@yahoo.com or 402-570-9476.

April 7th LAG Program

Jim Miklavcic-“Perspective and Composition”

Members, please bring a piece of artwork to the program. It will be like a critique on Perspective & Composition!

Jim Miklavcic was born and raised in Illinois where he spent most of his time in the woods. Yearly trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota enhanced his knowledge and love for wildlife and nature.

He doesn’t remember when the dream of becoming a wildlife artist started; it was always there. He doesn’t remember learning to draw; he just always has. ” It just came natural to me. The bulk of an artist’s training has to come from the heart. The desire to learn seems to be an obsession and a never ending process.”

Over the years Jim worked in design and architecture. He started to pursue his art in earnest in 1985 when he moved to Florida. He now resides in Lincoln, NE and continues to work on his art. ” I realized my art was more than a hobby to me, it was deep inside and the pull was too great to ignore. I also saw the important role wildlife artists can play in educating the public to problems facing wildlife and habitat. The forest, along with it’s wildlife, is our heritage.” Jim now devotes full time to his art, teaching and studies of nature, her wildlife, and our heritage.

Fourth Friday

There was a large turnout which resulted in food tables being left barren before the end of the night.  This illustrates the need for more LAG members to show off their culinary art skills for future Fourth Fridays. The night was very lively with the music and dancing provided by the Lincoln Irish Dancers.  People sat and listened while eating appetizers or wandered the gallery floor admiring the variety of art that LAG members presented to the public.

The featured artist of this month is Madeline Kivett who has a degree in graphic design, and who has multiple art skills that she presented at the show ranging form graphic design and illustration to painting and clothing design.

ABOUT 4TH FRIDAYS

The Gallery committee has been working overtime trying to do everything themselves—-we need all the members who have any kind of art at OOTB to bring food and to be there for fourth Fridays every time they can.  It makes a difference to the public if they can meet the artists and learn about their art first hand.  Plan to attend–it’s fun!  February’s 4th Friday was the largest yet, but we ran out of food early.

KUDOS

To Jane Chesnut for beautiful centerpieces she has been providing for our 4th Friday receptions.  Also to the rest of the OOTB Gallery Committee for their work, attendance and providing food.
