April’s Program “Make A Splash With Watercolor”

“Make a Splash with Watercolor” was a hit at April’s meeting with our own LAG member, Jude Martindale, sharing her skills and a recent workshop experience. Jude attended a Gouache Watercolor workshop in Myrtle Beach . Contour shapes and value studies were made from original photos. Shapes were flattened and simplified, thinking abstractly and value markers were used to decide on the best design. Finally, white gouache was added to colors for the finished  painting!  The workshop instructor, artist  Donna Zagotta , emphasized that “the painting is more important than the subject that inspires it!”  Refreshments were provided by Jan Pippitt.

Silent Auction Success

Each year at the Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge A.F.& A.M. of Nebraska (Nebraska Masonic Lodges’ state meeting), there is a silent auction to raise monies for the three youth groups sponsored by the Masonic order in the State of Nebraska. This year Carolyn Plants entered an oil painting for the Masons and their wives.  After several hours of bidding, the painting that Carolyn submitted topped out at $225 with a final bid from Past Grand Master Mike Jones. Following the close of the auction, Most Worshipful Brother Mike presented the painting to Right Worshipful Past Grand Master Ron Aungst of Pennsylvania. The bid was the highest dollar amount on a single item in this year’s silent auction.

LAG May Meeting

Come May 7th at 7:00 p.m. to the LAG’s monthly meeting held at Capitol City Christian Church. Come for a “Learning Experience in Visualizing, Composing, and Color Harmonizing” executed by rapid watercolor painting. Some of our own art members will demonstrate.  Learn how fast you can think and create. Watercolors will be flying! Group participation will be encouraged after the demonstration so we are asking everyone to bring watercolors or acrylics and brushes. Even if you’re not a watercolorist, please give it a try. Basic art knowledge applies to all media.  The “Art Basket Raffle” has been postponed until another time, which will allow more time this month for the plannedactivity.
