The October meeting is our Critique month

The judge artist should be able to help you with any tips that may improve your picture before you enter it in a juried show.   However, do bring any pictures that you would like to have critiqued as it is a good learning experience so that you can become even better at what you paint.  Your pictures can be done, framed or not framed, completed or still being worked on.  Or just come and observe and listen to the critique.  This will be for two paintings per member.   We have to be out of the church by 9:00 pm.

UPDATE!

The featured artist for September’s 4th FRIDAY has been moved to the December 4th FRIDAY.  That leaves the 2months of August and September open for featured artists.  It’s a great opportunity to promote your artworks for that 4th FRIDAY and up to the Wednesday before the next 4th FRIDAY.  It’s also lots of fun!  Please call or e mail Lois Rood, Donna Pozehl, or Jan Blank with your decision.

FEATURED ARTIST: RITA HOLLAND
Rita Holland is a native Nebraskan of Bohemian and Norwegian ancestry who grew up on a farm near Newman Grove, Nebraska. She will be presenting her landscape and floral oils on canvas. Rita has only been pursuing her art for about two years and took lessons from artist, Amy Sadle from Syracuse. Rita is a great asset to the Lincoln Artists’ Guild. She has been a member for three years, a greeter, a member of our gallery committee, and is our newly elected secretary for 2015.

FEATURED MUSIC: THE SOUTHEAST NEBRAKSA BOHEMIAN BAGPIPE BAND
This band is an eight piece group, rich with Czech culture and music. It features many Czech folk instruments that may seem a bit foreign to the average person including the dudy (the bohemian bagpipe), fanfrnoch, vozembouch, and hrabe. The only familiar instrumentation may be the violin, Eb clarinet and the Bb clarinet, associated with many brass bands. The dudy itself was first mentioned in history in the Premyslid Dynasty – 13th century in Prague in The Chronicle of Zbraslav in 1294.

The Southeast Nebraska Bohemian Bagpipe Band has a variety of talent that ranges in ages from 17 years to … well, let’s just say “maturity. The involvement of the youth in this group, combined with the experience of older members brings together a wonderful blend of skill and ideas. Danielle, Stefanie and Jo all have beautiful vocals and Sue can blend in on harmonies when needed.  The band’s members are all from the southeast Nebraska communities of Swanton, Wilber, Crete, Tobias and Lincoln. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!
