Thank You

Thank you goes out to Reida Wrenholt as she has volunteered to finish out this year’s Vice President position.  She cannot do the full 2024 term, so we need someone to volunteer to be on the ballot in January for this spot.  It involves attending business meetings once or every other month, vote on decisions brought before the board, and help out the President if so needed.  Let Carmen know if you are willing to help.

September Monthly Meeting

LAG meeting will be Tuesday evening, 7:00 at 2634 North 48th St. Park in the rear. (there is road construction in front of the building). Can park west of Mo Java and walk across 48th too.

This is our semi annual Critique Night. Everyone is invited to bring one, two or three pieces, either in progress or completed so that you can seek advice to “make it over that hump that so many of us have”. When you arrive, station your piece on an easel, or along the wall. Write your title on the sheet provided, and as members arrive they may begin by moving around the room and writing suggestions on the form provided with the piece. Later in the evening, there will be group discussions. (note: Fall Show entries will be due Tuesday October 31) With the Fall Show one month later, you now have a little over a month to rework or finish before the show deadline.

Officer Position Open

Jan Blank, our second Vice President of LAG is resigning her position.  Her family is dealing with some issues that are taking up most of her time.  She will remain in the Guild and doesn’t rule out running for an office at a later time.  SO……..the position of second Vice President needs to be filled for the remainder of the year.  Requirements are that you must have been a member within the last six months.  If you would like to finish out the year for Jan, please let Carmen know.  This would let you get your feet wet without signing up for a whole year.  If it is something that you would like to pursue further, your name can be added to our January ballot for the 2024 LAG year.

2nd Vice President Duties include:

  • Act in the absence of the President and when doing so shall have all powers of and be subject to all restrictions upon the office of the President.
  • Assist the President in his/her duties.
  • Act as contact for committee chairs.
  • The President may assign other duties from time to time.

Seward Show Pick-up

We will be picking up the Seward Show on Wednesday August 30 at 9:30 a.m.  Members already planning to attend are Pam and Don Apley, Donna Justsen, Gretchen Olberding and Carmen Stineman.  If you are interested in going, let Pam know so she can set up ride sharing.  p.apley@icloud.com

Pickup of returned work will be Thursday morning August 31 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. behind the LAG meeting room.  2634 North 48th.  If you cannot pickup at that time, work will be stored in my garage and brought to our September meeting.  Call or text if neither of these options work – Camen at 402 641 6233.

Homework

At the last LAG meeting, we talked about places we might have a pop up show.  Can you think of one place we might go – check with appropriate resource – and let officers know of places.

We also talked about creating a flyer that tells people about the Guild, that can be put in various places in Lincoln.  Libraries, stores, etc. so that we can get information out there.  Can you be creative and design an idea?  Bring ideas to any of the next several meetings.

Also on the topic of meetings, we REALLY need input on programs.  Can you come up with one or more program ideas – have a presenter that you have contacted – and give that info to an officer so that they can start compiling next years programs.  Remember two meetings are critiques, and December we do not hold a meeting and January is our New Year Party and membership drive; so we are looking at 8 programs in total.  Ideas for day long workshops are encouraged too. Any ideas?  We could even bring in someone from out of state and open up the workshop to the public after filling available spots with LAG members first.

Tidbits

Gretchen Olberding is bringing treats in September!

New Years Party and Membership Drive will be in January 2024.  Theme is Chinese New Year and Reida Wrenholt and Wanda Medina are chairmen for the event.  There will be an optional white elephant exchange and spouses or significant others are welcome to attend.  More information later in the year.

At the next several meetings there will be a sign up sheet for members to select how they can help out the Guild.  The officers cannot do all the work and become “burned out”.  If everyone picks up the slack, we can revitalize our organization and provide some new and exciting things for the future.

Next Officers meeting will be Thursday September 7th at Bagel and Joe’s on north 84th street at 8:15 a.m.

April Program

Tuesday April 11 at 7:00 is our monthly meeting. Topic is “Card Making”. We will be creating cards for our secretary to use throughout the year for correspondence. Cards will be provided, but you need to bring media of your choice, and ideas that you might want to do. We will also have a chance to just sit and talk about art, bring in a tool or book that you have that you want to share with the group or a piece your working on that you want help with.

We will also be trading art cards this evening. Bring any you wish to add to the trade table. We will do this again in several months if successful.

ATTENTION: There is major utility work going on in front of the Tai Chi Studio. Please plan additional time to arrive. You may have to go a couple of blocks out of your way to get into the back parking lot.

Production Artist Wanted

Keri Kriston works for Vahallan Papers which create handmade luxury wallpaper and wall coverings and they are in need of help. She said that they create textures and painting techniques on individual sheets of paper and if that is something that may interest you, they will train. Check out their website….Vahallan Papers, Inc.

Trinity Fine Arts Festival

Participation appears to be very good as far as acceptance letters went from the chairmen of the festival. Thank you to everyone who is planning on showing. This gives great exposure for our club. We will be providing several free membership drawings during the day, and Kirk is going to be doing his caricatures. More information will be presented at the April meeting so we can provide everyone with times, requirements, etc.
