Membership

Congratulations LAG; at the end of our membership drive we officially have 31 members. Looking forward to a great year. We have a gallery to show in, with multiple places in addition to show for the year; LUX, Gallery 9, Red Path Gallery in Seward, Trinity Fine Arts Fair, Nebraska City and the ANAC Convention. We will let everyone know of additional art venues. Carmen Stineman, President

March Program

We will be in room 522 at the Sheridan Lutheran Church for our March 13th LAG meeting. Program is:

Fundamentals of Portrait Drawing – It Doesn’t Need to Be Scary!

We will be working with a live model – 5, 10 and 20 minute sessions

1) Seeing and capturing basic shapes – orbs, eggs, pyramids, cones, cubes, etc. and organizing them into a portrait

2) Gesture – Orienting the figure in your space

3) Expression – what key elements make this subject special?

Materials:

Drawing pad, 9×12” or larger

Drawing clipboard (optional)

Easel – if you want to stand (also optional)

Charcoal pencils – hard and medium (I recommend General’s – available at Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Gomez)

Cretacolor sticks or Conte’ pencils, if you like (optional) I will probably be using Cretacolor for some drawings

Utility knife (razor) and sanding block for sharpening – available at most any hardware store

Chamois cloth

Kneaded eraser

If possible, it would be helpful to have a few trash cans scattered around the space for shavings, sanding dust.

Program facilitator will be Chuck Schroeder

Seward Fourth of July Show

Happening this summer will be our Fourth of July Show in Seward, held at the Red Path Gallery. Members will be limited to a maximum of two entries. Space is limited, so be cognizant of the size of your pieces, and if they are large, limit your entry to one piece. Entry fee will remain at $10 for three months, (what a deal) and work sold will have a 30% commission tacked on to your sale price. In addition there will be a mini show to further the 70’s theme of the Seward Fourth of July theme.

Mini Show: The 2025 Seward Summer Art Show will have a theme representing the opening of their 1970’s time capsule (which is pyramid shaped) at their Fourth of July Celebration.  In honor of that event, the Lincoln Artists’ Guild Show at the Red Path Gallery will feature a mini show homage to that event with 8” x 8” canvas squares (hung in the shape of the pyramid) depicting something from the 70’s.  These may be in any media, but the edges must be finished as there will be no framing.  Entries will not have an entry fee, and LAG will be providing the canvases.  Pick yours up at the March LAG meeting. All pieces will be due at the May monthly meeting.  Pieces sold, (at $70 each, following the 70’s theme) will still be paying a commission fee but remaining profit will be passed on to the particular artist of that piece.  Photos will be taken of each one prior to hanging, so if sold during the summer, the photo representative of that piece will be put in it’s place in order to keep the “pyramid” shape.

The LAG will still continue to provide our typical show of pieces, but only the mini show will follow the summer theme.

Gallery News

As we roll into spring, March crept up quickly, so we are negotiating with the Gallery 9 to reopen our gallery for the three months of April, May and June. We are filling our walls and if you are interested in showing at this beautiful gallery in downtown Lincoln, contact Jan Garvin. 402 318 9757. Hanging day will be Sunday March 30th.

LAG Web Page

We are in the process of changing out our online presence to include current information.  We are changing our web page.  As we process this change, we would encourage each of you, if you have a website, and you want to have that information linked to our page, please let us know.  You can email Lisa at (limabean77@gmail.com) with that address.  We should have the new page incorporated by the end of next month, so don’t delay.  If you want to check out what is done so far, go to Lincolnartistsguild.blogspot.com.  If you see an error, or have something that we can add, let me know.  We will eventually have our members information here so that we don’t have to create a booklet again.  (that will be a members only site – not for public viewing)
